Big Dipper
by Doug Scobel

This photograph of the constellation Ursa Major was taken by Doug Scobel in November 2006. The most obvious feature of this constellation is a group of stars called the “Big Dipper.” This is what he said about the photograph:

While I had film exposing, I played around with the manual modes on my point-and-shoot digital camera and came up with some very pleasing results. The night images are 15 seconds (as long as the camera will go), f/2.8, ISO 100, then processed using Paint Shop Pro 8.
