The Sun on September 11, 2004
by Doug Scobel
Cool, literally! This is the sun in hydrogen alpha, which is at the red
(i.e., cool) end of the spectrum. I took it this Saturday (September 11, 2004 around 2:00
pm EDT) at the Black Forest Star Party through a Coronado PST (Personal
Solar Telescope) double stack that someone had set up. I just held the
camera to the eyepiece. There’s a little bit of cloud encroachment on
the left hand side.
WARNING: Viewing the sun without proper protective devices can result in permanent eye damage.
