The Horsehead Nebula

The Orion Nebula

Hi everyone,

I managed to snap a couple of photos on Friday the 13th (March 13, 2009). Hope you enjoy.

I suppose a few comments are in order....

All the photos were taken at Peach Mountain with an unmodified Canon 30D DSLR, at prime-focus of my StarMaster 14.5” F4.3 scope. Camera was set at ISO 1250. No filters were used in any images.

The HorseHead Nebula image is a single image, exposure time was 88 seconds. The original data does not show much, the image I sent was “enhanced” (mostly for color and contrast) using a image-processing tool called GIMP. Although I have several photos, I haven’t had time to stack and process them. My skill with processing is very poor—there is still a lot I need to learn to obtain decent results).

The Orion Nebula image is an unprocessed image straight from the camera, converted from RAW to JPG, an exposure of 28 seconds. This is my favorite out of the session as well.
