Comet 17P/Holmes

Comet 17P/Holmes
by Doug Scobel

Comet Holmes

A sketch of Comet Holmes by Doug Scobel taken October 26, 2007.

He supplied these notes: Compact and very bright. Coma is nearly perfectly circular, with a fairly distinct edge. Color is yellowish. Nucleus is star-like, which looks white or almost bluish in comparison with the coma. There’s a much brighter “inner” coma surrounding the nucleus and extending to the south west. No tail seen. Outer coma is brighter around the edges giving it an annular appearance. Like a big, bright planetary. Beautiful, bright object!
