Comet 17P/Holmes

Comet 17P/Holmes
by Frank Suits

Comet Holmes

This is an image Frank Suits took in his C11 last night (October 25, 2007). It shows the nucleus of comet 17P/Holmes. On the left is the raw image and on the right is wavelet enhanced. You can see empty wake behind nucleus and some jet structure maybe.

?

Here is another image of the comet from Frank using his C11 with Hyperstar f/1.8.

“Note the view is very fore-shortened since it is pointing at us. The field is about 1x0.75 degrees. This is a stack of 75 1minute exposures.... Tail is faint, but there....”
