Saturn and Six Moons
by John Kirchhoff
Hi,
Managed this picture of Saturn earlier this month (March 9, 2007). It is a composite image of Saturn and six of its many moons (the image shows Titan, Rhea, Dione, Tethys, Enceladus and Mimas).
The moon portion of the image was shot in black and white with a long exposure that brought out the moons and totally burned out the planet.
Through the magic of Photoshop, I layered in a properly exposed color image of the planet.
I hope to try this technique on a crescent image of our moon showing earthshine in the near future.
Clear skies,
John
