Believe it or not, Yours Truly attended last night’s open house at Peach Mountain (Saturday, February 28, 2009). This is an artsy-meaningless shot of the 80-foot radio dish with the crescent moon and Venus (which showed a very similar crescent phase in telescopes).
Attendance was quite good, a lot of younger folks and some families with small children. A lot of “wow”s and “cool”s as young and old alike viewed The Moon, Venus, Saturn, comet Lulin, M42/43, The Pleiades, Double Cluster, and many other celestial treats. Lots of intelligent questions also. The weather cooperated too, temps in the low 20s to upper teens, but no wind so it was quite comfortable for those who dressed properly. Curiously, one guest, one of a trio from the Chicago area, wore short sleeves, and it didn’t seem to bother him at all. I was impressed and baffled at the same time.
Good time. Other members in attendance included Mark Deprest, Yasu and Yumi Inugi, Chris Sarnecki, Jim Forrester, Jack Brisbin, new member Amy (sorry, I don’t remember your last name), Mike Radwick, and a couple others whom I don’t know.
