Pictures of Comet Hale-Bopp [Image 8]
Comet Hale-Bopp Over the Three Sisters
by John Flinn
This is a photograph taken by John Flinn. It shows the comet Hale-Bopp
on April 11th, 1997. The Three Sisters (a group of volcanoes located in
Central Oregon) can be seen in the foreground. The glow behind the Three
Sisters was from a northern lights display in Canada. The volcanoes were
illuminated by a partial moon. Hale-Bopp is in the same spot in the sky
that the comet Hyakutake was exactly a year previous (near Algol in the constellation
of Perseus).
