Sketch of the nucleus of Hale-Bopp
by Mark Deprest
Drawing by Mark Deprest. The drawing was done almost completely at the telescope (an 8 inch f/6 Meade Starfinder)
on March 26, 1997, using various power eyepieces. The star field and the SAO numbers were confirmed using Guide
5.0 software.
On May 2, 1998, (Astronomy Day) at the Kensington Spring Star Party, David
H. Levy (one of the co-discoverers of the comet Shoemaker-Levy-9 and several
other comets) graciously agreed to autograph it.
