September: Pengpeng Feng (visiting scholar from Zhongshan University, China) gave a presentation on how western feminist film theory could be applied in China

October: The group read and discussed “The Modern Girl” project by Tani Barlow et.al at the University of Washington

November: Min Ah Kim (visiting journalist from South Korea) lectured on Korean women and politics

December: Yan Chen from Fudan University reported on the UM-Fudan Women’s Studies exchange program;
Wang Zheng presented her ten-city lecture tour in China

 

Winter/2006

January: Professor Hitomi Tonomura gave a talk on female junior scholar and career in American academia; Discussion with graduate student members

February: Discussion on Bibliographies—Korean Studies, Sociology, Comparative Literature (Presenters: Matthew Wegehaupt, Yan Long, Liansu Meng)

March: Discussion on Bibliographies—Masculinity (Presenter: Ying Zhang)

April (2 meetings): Discussion with Professor Lydia Liu on her book chapter—open to the public;
Planning meeting: Review of books to be read and discussed for the next term; future activities.

May: Graduate paper workshop —open to the public

September: Global Feminisms: Comparative Case Studies of Women's Activism and Scholarship Reflections on the Conference

October: Feminist journalist, Renge Jibu, gave a talk on the application of gender knowledge in the Japanese business community.

November: Group discussion on Mobile Cultures: New Media in Queer Asia, which is edited by Chris Berry, Fran Martin, and Audrey Yue.

January: Discussion with Professor Valerie Traub on her book--open to the public
