Yerkes Observatory


The 40’ telescope was dedicated on October 1, 1897. The year 1895 appears in this photo (just below the text “Yerkes Observatory University of Chicago”), so I guess that’s when construction on the building itself was completed.
The main entrance has a bas-relief of Apollo on his chariot above the doorway.
