The Center for Chinese Studies recently held a photo competition entitled "China: A Time of Change," inviting submissions of contemporary and original photographs taken in China. Faculty and students affiliated with this center and with the University of Michigan were eligible to submit up to two photos within this theme, and submissions appear below. Contest requirements included submission of a short description of where the photo was taken, and how this image related to the overall theme of the contest. Submissions were judged by a panel of China Center faculty affiliates and staff, and were judged on artistic and technical ability, and the degree to which the image conveyed the theme.
An exhibition of these photos will be on display in the gallery space of the International Institute during regular office hours from August 21, 2006 through September 27, 2006.
