MSIE 5.0 has many known issues, we have attempted to contact MS about some of them which are causing us to NOT reccomend it as supported with our web-app. Forms useage is one of the issues. I have had very good luck using Netscape 4.72 on the Mac but you must get a version from ftp.netscape.com. The automagicly downloaded version and all bundled versions (iMac, G4, etc) seem very crash happy to me.

I just tried my copy of Netscape at source forge and it worked fine, has been online all day without fail testing Javascript here in the development lab. If you like I can send you my installer tommorrow when I'm back in the office.
