Dr. Moncion received his PhD in Applied Physics and Certificate in Medical Physics from the University of Michigan. He has taught several graduate level courses, served as Associate Director for the University of Michigan’s Medical Physics Residency Program, and is continuing his dedication to education through serving as the current Director for the Medical Physics Certificate Program. Dr. Moncion’s research interest focus on overall radiotherapy quality enhancement by means of technology use optimization, quality improvement, and risk assessment. Medical School Profile |
Zheng Zhang, PhD
![]() |
Dr. Zhang was trained in basic science before entering the field of medical physics via the alternative pathway. Enhancing the medical physics talent pipeline to foster growth in our field is one of his greatest academic passions. Dr. Zhang specializes in natural language processing methods for learning health system infrastructure, as well as developing novel ClinOps analytical approaches for workflow optimization. He currently serves as the Associate Director of the program. In his free time, he enjoys rowing on the beautiful Huron River. Medical School Profile |
Martha Matuszak, PhD
![]() |
Dr. Matuszak is the Associate Chair and Division Director of Physics. As the lead of the research dosimetry section in the Department of Radiation Oncology, she aids in the design, implementation, and analysis of advanced adaptive therapy protocols and works extensively on in-house and national clinical trials. Dr. Matuszak has a joint appointment in the Department of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences and has active collaborations on advanced techniques for radiotherapy plan optimization within the Industrial and Operations Engineering Department. She currently holds grant funding in the area of knowledge based treatment planning. Medical School Profile |
Joann Prisciandaro, PhD
![]() |
Dr. Prisciandaro is a therapeutic medical physicist at the University of Michigan, where she has been on faculty since 2004. She served as the lead brachytherapy physicist and Director of Brachytherapy Physics until November 2021, and she currently serves as the Director of Clinical Physics. Dr. Prisciandaro has a strong interest in education. She has taught medical physics to radiation therapy technology students, radiation oncology residents, and clinical physics residents, and served as the associate director and director of the University of Michigan’s medical physics residency program from 2006 - 2019. Professionally, Dr. Prisciandaro is an active member of a number of American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) committees and subcommittees. Most notably, she served as the Chair of Education Council from 2019 – 2024. She also served as a board member for the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs (CAMPEP) from 2013 - 2018. Medical School Profile |
Karolyn Hopfensperger, PhD
