Amber Nobility

House Arion

The warrior house. They were instrumental in expanding and maintaining Amber's borders under the watchful eyes of Prince Benedict and Prince Julian. Some of the best military minds in Amber's Court have come from House Arion. They also maintain a standing militia. The Marquis of Arion, Ander, is currently serving Prince Benedict, overseeing and coordinating Benedict's troops when Benedict is away, and acting as chainman when Benedict is within the realm.

Kindin: 30-year-old son of Ander and Rada, younger brother of Anatoli, Lander, Pello and Lon, older brother of Bittor, Nora and Danel, he is a member of the King's guard.

Lander: 36-year-old Captain of the Castle Guard, son of Ander and Rada, younger brother of Anatoli, older brother of Pello, Lon, Kindin, Bittor, Nora and Danel.

Rada (deceased): 50-year-old Marchioness of Arion, sister of the Marquis of Tullia, married to Ander, mother of Anatoli, Lander, Pello, Lon, Kindin, Bittor, Nora and Danel. She was among those who were fatally poisoned at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos.

House Bayle

Official vintner to the Court, and one of the richest families in Amber. They own a large estate in the city, an ancestral home, Arbor House, which is located about 30 miles east of Kolvir, and various other properties, including Baylesport and Baylecrest. They also, along with House Bolsena, own most of Amber's surrounding land. Their symbol represents the two favorite loves of the Bayles, dogs and wine.

House Bolsena

Holders of some of the most tillable soil in Amber, their various and sundry holdings keep the entirety of Amber fed. Most of their lands are to the south, beyond Arden, and they have forged strong ties with House Arion and with Julian's Rangers.

The second oldest family in Amber, they are known for their skill in horse breeding. Members of this house also tend to have long noses. They maintain a cavalry of highly trained men.

House Feldane

One of the more scholarly houses, their library is reputed to be the best in Amber, and is located at Dunscott Manor. They suffered the among the greatest losses from the mass poisoning at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos, losing the entire family save for Irene, and she only a Feldane by marriage. With no surviving heir, the house has been given over to the supervision of Prince Alex, who has turned the Feldane estate and most of the library into a university.

Elke (deceased): Marchioness of Feldane, sister of Kasper and Kassia, married to Tierney, mother of Cordelia, Erin, Keelin, Madelein, Oona, Rowena, Sybil, Ursula, Arien, Dana and Teague, formerly of House Solon. She gave Tierney ten daughters before finally producing an heir, then died seven years later, doubtless worn out from the experience.

Erin (deceased): 36-year-old daughter of Tierney and Elke, younger sister of Cordelia, older sister of Keelin, Madelein, Oona, Rowena, Sybil, Ursula, Arien, Dana and Teague. She was among those who were fatally poisoned at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos.

Irene (missing): 43-year-old Marchioness of Feldane, daughter of Neville and Dory, younger sister of Audrey and Callia, older sister of Sabine, Jocelin, Landry and Harold, widow of Tierney, formerly of House Chantris. She is about 5'6" tall, with curly brown hair that she often wears tied back in a pony-tail. Felix was secretly courting her for a time, and because of this, Vialle convinced her father to delay her betrothal to Tierney for a time. Felix did not contact Irene in several years, though, and the marriage to Tierney eventually took place. Brand discovered that Irene held a bit of a grudge over this, and with a few modifications turned it into a full blown obsession of insane proportions, triggered when Irene learned that Felix was to marry Tamaryn. In her effort to hurt Felix, Irene used a two part poison to take out everyone who partook of Emperor Nicholas' toast at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos, which is to say, everyone. Although the royal family managed to survive, much of the nobility in attendance died. Irene's role was quickly discovered, but she was not punished, since it was Brand who was truly responsible. Instead she was deprogramed and sent to the Golden Circle, where she worked at charitable causes for several years, trying to make up for the wrong she had committed. Then she mysteriously disappeared, and no one has seen her since.

House Karm

The oldest family in Amber, House Karm actually originated in Chaos and is believed to have come to Amber with Dworkin and Oberon. Members of the house still possess shapeshifting abilities, although this is not publicly known. Osric once killed three people from this house over the death of a relative on Cymnea's side. Oberon acquitted Osric, based on earlier cases, despite the fact that Oberon was friendly with the house. Of course, Oberon sent Osric, and coincidentally, Finndo, to their deaths shortly thereafter...

A merchant house, they are the largest and richest family in Amber, and own many of the shops in City Amber. One of their claims to fame is the fact that Gérard's wife, Isabeux, came from this house.

House Orsola

Masters of the sea, Orsola also forged the Shadowpaths through the seas to the Golden Circle. It is commonly known that some of the members of the house can trace their lineage to Prince Osric. The death without an heir of Marquis Ilarion, who had only recently taken over the house at the death of his widowed father, has left the future leadership of the house in question.

Samuel (deceased): 75-year-old Marquis of William, younger brother of Dory, married to Helena, father of Summer, Justina and Virgil. He was among those who were fatally poisoned at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos.

Virgil: 14-year-old Head of House William, son of Samuel and Helena, younger brother of Summer and Justina. With the loss of his parents at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos, he has been taken in by Ishmael and Maddy until he comes of age.

Kiril: 24-year-old Marquis of Zeno, son of Richard and Georgia, older brother of Eduard, Dana and Pavla, he was briefly impersonated by Jack o' the Willows while Jack was seducing Alexandra.

Pavla: Daughter of Richard and Georgia, sister of Kiril, Eduard and Dana.

Richard (deceased): Marquis of Zeno, married to Georgia, father of Kiril, Eduard, Dana and Pavla. He was among those who were fatally poisoned at the ball celebrating the union of Amber and Chaos.
