Chapter 4: Stoichiometry

Example: Calculate \(\epsilon\)

For the gas phase reaction \(2A + B \to C\), the feed is equal molar in A and B. Calculate \(\epsilon\).

Solution

A is the limiting reactant \( A + \frac{1}{2}B \to \frac{1}{2}C \) \( \delta = \frac{1}{2} - \frac{1}{2} - 1 = -1 \) \( \varepsilon = y_{A0} \delta = \frac{1}{2}(-1) = -0.5 \)
