Exhaust System Acoustics and Back Pressure. Tenneco Automotive, Grass Lake Engineering Center, Co-instructors: David R. Dowling, William E. Hill (Tenneco Senior Engineer). This two-and-half-day short course covered basic acoustic theory and its application to automobile exhaust systems with minimal use of calculus. Instead, course content was based on algebraic and trigonometric relationships, listening demonstrations, and case studies. From 1994 to 2019, this short course was offered 42 times and reached more that 1,700 students in America, Germany, Japan, Australia, and China. However, the course was not offered during the pandemic and lost its following in subsequent years as the automobile industry moved to electrical powertrains.
