A biosketch reports [1]:
Not much is known about Thomas Pickett, the youngest son of James Pickett and his wife, Hannah, however he was right along with his older brothers serving his country in its time of need. He was made ensign in the first regiment, N.C. line at Salisbury, October 20, 1773, and was placed under the command of his brother Captain William Pickett. On January 4, 1776, this regiment was disbanded. Later he probably is the Thomas Pickett who later resided in New Hanover, N.C.
1740-45 Thomas Pickett, son of James and Hannah Rennolds Pickett, was born about this time. [2]

1774 In April, Thomas Pickett and brother William sold land to James Meredith. Mourning Pickett also signed the deed. [4]
1774 In May, Thomas Pickett and brother William sold land to James Allen. [5]
Thomas Pickett served in the militia. [6]
1779 Thomas Pickett's land fell into Richmond County, North Carolina. [7]
1783 William Pickett and Thomas Pickett and others were listed in a court case concerning the estate of William Thomas. [8]
1790 Thomas Pickett lived in Cumberland County, North Carolina, in a household with 1 males age 16 and over, and 1 females. [9]
1790 In June, "Thomas Pickett and Jacob Smiley with their hands, and Thomas White's hands, to work on the new road laid out from the upper bridge on Rockfish to the bounds of Fayetteville." [10]
1790 In December, "Jacob Smilie, road overseer from Pickett's bridge to Tar Kill Branch, working the following hands: Jacob Smilie's, Mrs Carver's, and Robert Raiford's". (Cumberland County NC Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions 1779-1791, Vol 2 by William C Fields, p 301, 311, 313, 314). [11]
1793 Thomas Pickett's brother James gave a deed of gift, recorded in Cumberland County and then in Robeson County, to his niece, Sarah, likely Thomas' daughter [12] [13]:
To all to whom these presents shall come greeting. Whereas I, James Pickett, of Anson County, and state aforesaid, for and in consideration of divers good causes and love which I do bear toward my cousin Robert Smiley, son of Jacob Smiley, have by these presents given granted set over and delivered unto the said Robert Smiley, one Negro wench named Bitt together with her increase unto him the said Robert his heirs and assigns reserving at the same time the said wench and her increase to the use of my niece, Sarah Smiley, during her natural life and at her death, it is my pleasure that the increase then do descend to and be divided between Sarah Smiley's children. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal the 30th day of November 1793. Jas (*) Pickett. Signed in the presence of Wm Raiford and Hannah Raiford.
1798 A marriage contract filed in Cumberland County reads [14] [15] [16]:
This indenture made this 28th day of May … 1798 - between Thomas Picket of the County of Cumberland & state of North Carolina on the one part, and Jonathan Tommey of the County & State aforesaid, on the other part Witnesseth that in consideraton of the love and affection which the said Thomas Pickett hath and beareth to Anney Tommey … for and in consideration of the sum of ten shillings current money of said state to the said Thomas Pickett in hand paid by the said Jonathan Tomey … because a marriage is shortly to be had and solemnized between the aforesaid Thomas Pickett and Anney Tommey … Pickett gives … to Jonathan … two negro slaves namely Tom & Judd and … also five head of cattle & one feather bed … recorded 1799.
