1731 The death of Joseph Blake was recorded in the November court in Accomack county, Virginia. Thomas Staton, George Douglas, and John Walker were appointed to inventory and appraise the estate. [Joseph Blake was perhaps the father of Joseph Blake who married to Sophia Staton, sister of Thomas Staton.] [1]
1760 Warington Staton of Accomack County, Virginia made his will dated on December 5. The will named youngest daughter Sophia. The will gave specific bequests to wife Catherine, son Thomas, son Joseph (but if the aforesaid Joseph should die without lawful issue then the said land & Plantation I give to my youngest son Warrington Staton), youngest son Warrington, son George, youngest daughter Sophia, daughter Keziah Taylor, daughter Elizabeth Mathews, son Jacob, son James. Five children were named to inherit the widow's estate at her death: Jacob, Comfort, James, Sophia, and Warrington. [2] [3]
1779-1782 Joseph Blake of Accomack County, Virginia wrote his will dated April 17, 1779. The will named wife Sophia and a possible child to be born within 9 months. The will was proved at a court on June 28, 1782 by the oaths of witnesses John Howard and Littleton Trader. Wife Sophia Blake was named executor with security from Joseph Staten and William Conquest. 1787 Thomas Staten and wife Anne sold land to Isaac Warner in Accomack County on February 27. [5] The indenture from Thomas Staten and wife Anne to Isaac Warner was acknowledged in the Accomack County court. [6]
… being the Tract of land that formerly belong to Joseph Blake that he gave to his wife Sophia Blake that was Sophie Staton the sister of the aforesaid Thomas Staton & she deceased without a lawful issue that will become the property of the aforesaid Thomas Statons Joining on Southy Lucases Easterly Seven Gales land southerly on John Howard westerly William Mayson Northerly together with all buildings improvements & appurtenances of every Kind to the aforesaid sixty acres of land …
