Notes for Henry Foltz

A portion of the 1765 land patent tract was described in a 1821 deed involving Henry Foltz and wife Salome. Tax records show that there was a generational change from Henry Foltz Sr to Henry Foltz Jr in 1803. The 1800 census with Henry age 26-44 suggests that there must have been another generational change since the tax record of 1769 when Henry was likely over age 20. Henry was single in 1774, so a son would not be of age before 1795. We have found no mention of Henry Foltz Jr in the the tax record from 1769 to 1801 (there are many records so it might have been overlooked). Alternatively, perhaps son Henry lived until about 1826 but declared a younger age for the census records since he had married late, perhaps to a woman younger than he.

1769-1801 Henry Foltz (Son of Heinrich Volz?) was taxed (as a single man in 1769 and 1774) for 100 acres (30 acres of cleared land and 70 acres of woodland) in Warwick Twp. Widowed mother Eva was not listed, so perhaps she had died or was living with Henry. 1805-07 Henry Foltz Jr was taxed with 4 acres in Warwick Twp. [42] [43] [44]

1808-09 Henry Foltz was taxed with 100 acres in Warwick Twp. [45] [46]

1810 Henry Fultz lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 2 (Under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 1 (Under 10) and 2 (16 thru 25). [47]

1812 Henry Folzes land was listed under Christian Kauffman tax. [48]

1810-17 Henry Folz Jr (65 acres) and Sr (25 acres) were taxed in Warwick Twp with 3rd rate land. The name Henry Folz Jr was crossed out in 1812 and 1814 and he was not listed in 1816 or 1817. [49] [50] [51] [52] [53] [54] [55] [56]

1820 There were three census listings for Henry Foltz.

1820 Henry Foltz lived in Cocalico Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (Under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 2 (Under 10), 1 (16 thru 25), and 1 (26 thru 44). [57] Henry Foltz was not on the Cocalico Twp tax list.

1820 Henry Foltz Senior lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (10 thru 15) and 1 (45 and over); and females: 1 (16 thru 25) and 1 (45 and over). [58]

1820 Henry Foltz lived in Warwick Twp, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 2 (Under 10), 1 (10 thru 15), and 1 (26 thru 44); and females: 2 (Under 10) and 1 (26 thru 44). [59]

1821 Henry Foltz (now Sr) and wife Salome sold 12 acres of land, by deed dated March 16. The land was sold for $1 to John Keller and John Geyer who were creditors to Henry Foltz. The land was the remainder of a larger tract described in land patent dated September 28, 1765 to Eva Folts in trust for the use of her son Henry Foltz Sr and for his heirs and assigns. There is no language to suggest that Henry Foltz Sr, son of Eva, was a different person from Henry Foltz Sr, spouse of Salome. Elisabeth Foltz was a witness to the deed. [60]

1818-21 Henry Folz Sr was listed in the Warwick tax records. [61] [62] [63] [64]

1822 The estate of Henry Folz Sr was listed in the Warwick tax records. [65] There was no listing n 1825.

1826 The heirs of Henry Foltz Sr (son or grandson of Henry?) of Cocalico Twp, Lancaster County settled his estate which had only personal property. No land was mentioned. The six heirs were all of Warwick Twp. Henry Folz Jr, constable of Warwick, was the only son. Daughter Elizabeth was single. Four other daughters were married: Susanna wife of Henry Butler, Mary, wife of John Geyer, Salome wife of John Geyer, and Eve wife of Daniel Geyer. The value of the estate would likely not pay the debts due to creditors. All the other heirs relinquished their shares to Elizabeth, who was to pay the debts. The deed was dated August 4. [66] [67]
