Several researchers have named Mary Kauffman, spouse of John Sherfey of Greene/Washington County, Tennessee, as a daughter of Andrew Kauffman and Mary Herr. However, it seems unlikely that Andrew Kauffman, whose entire life was apparently spent in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, had a daughter who lived in Tennessee. These notes are part of our research to identify other plausible lineages for Mary Kauffman, spouse of John Sherfey. Robert Wolfe has DNA matches with several descendants of Mary Kauffman and John Sherfey.

1807 The inventory of John Coffman's estate was reported in Washington County, Tennessee. Jacob Brown was the administrator. Mary Coffman and Leonard Coffman were named. [6] [7]
1809 Conrad Coffman, Jacob Coffman, Mathias Coffman, John Coffman, and Sarah Coffman were assigned guardians until they achieved the age of 21. [8]
1810 The final settlement of the estate of John Coffman was made with administrator Col Brown. [9]
1825 John Coffman was the plaintif in a court case. Dismissed. [10]
1827 Martin Carey and Anny Sherfey were married on September 20. [11]
1833 Mathias Coffman and John Sherfey Sen'r provided sureties for the marriage of Mathias Coffman to Elizabeth Madlock on June 12. [12]
1834 John Sherfey was appointed overseer of a road in Washington County, Tennessee. Joshua Sherfey and Mathias Coffmann were named as hands for another road. [13]
1844 Saml. Sherfey was the administrator of John Sherfey decd. Date February 5. [14] [15] [16]
1846 Johannes Sherfey, spouse of Mary Sherfey, died in 1846 in Washington Heights, Washington County, Tennessee. He was born on March 3, 1764 in Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland. [17]
1850(?) The account of John Sherfey was reported in Washington County, Tennessee. Heirs were named as Benjamin Sherfey, Samuel Sherfey, Danl Sherfey, Danl Sherfey for Jacob Sherfey, Joseph Carey, Joshua Sherfey, Adam Shanks & Wife, Rev. Sherfey for John Sherfey, George Sherfey's order in full, Martin Carey, receipts not found, Amt paid to ten heirs - 14.82 $ 148.20. Daving to Joseph Sherfey an heir (residence not known) his portion of said Estate. [18]
1877 Son John Sherfy, spouse of Margret Catherine Sherfy, died on April 19 in Jonesborough, Washington County, Tennessee. He was born on January 14, 1796 in Jonesborough, Washington County, Tennessee. [19]
