A Genealogy of the Meisser Family reports [2]

JOHN W. MIZER 4/4, son of Johann Adam Meiser 3/9 (Johann Michael Meiser 2/2, Johan Jurg Meisser 1/1) and Mary Eckhart, was born in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in the year 1787 and died August 16, 1870.

According to the War of 1812 Pension Records, John W. Mizer was married to Mary Stone who died in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, April 8, 1838. On November 22, 1839 he married Catharine Stone, sister of his first wife. She was born ca. 1801 and the marriage was performed by Philip Mizer 5/7, J. P.

The Pension Records also reveal that John W. Mizer served in the War of 1812 under Captain Latta and Col. Duval from September 21, 1812 to March 16, 1813.

Deeds to land reveal that John W. Mizer was the owner of tracts of land in Wayne and Tuscarawas Counties. The Wayne County Recorder's office shows that sixty acres of land was deeded to John Mizer May 22, 1824 by his parents, Adam Meiser and his wife Mary. The land in Tuscarawas County, Ohio is described in the County Recorder's records as being purchased from the President of the United States August 26, 1828. It was an eighty-six acre tract described as being the West 1/2 of the South-west 1/4 of Section 16, Township 7, Range 3. It has been said that it was from this farm that he donated some land for the site of the Renner Church and Cemetery about the year 1840.

The Evans Creek Lutheran Church records show that he and his wife were regular communing members of this church until his death in 1870. They also reveal a daughter, Nancy, was baptized here in 1840.

A great-grandson of John W. Mizer, Harry Dreher, relates that John was a great hunter and that on one occasion while hunting at "Standing Rock," he killed eight deer with only nine shots. John's daughter, Nancy, also tells that one of the playthings she had when a little girl was a pile of deer horns about three feet high.
