These notes for Benjamin Staton and Mary Wood are gathered to facilitate research about Nancy Cochran, an ancestor of Robert Wolfe. Their children have several descendants with DNA matches to Robert Wolfe. In addition, those matches are shared matches with many dna matches of Robert who are descendants of Robert's Cochran line and with descendants of Roland and Temperance Ware. The actual relationship of the Staton, Cochran, and Ware lines to each other is unknown to Robert but the dna evidence suggests a close relationship. The listing shown here of Nancy (Cochran) ResearchStaton and Temperance (Ware) ResearchStaton as daughters of Benjamin Staton and Mary Wood is artificial and is not based on any documentation but is shown here to facilitate the identification of dna matches among these lines.

Benjamin Staton, with his family, including sons John Walter Staton and Samuel Gordon Staton, came to the region in the early 1800s. Family tradition states that Benjamin Staton was in the Revolutionary War. He lived to be 103.
The family property was at the North Carolina-South Carolina line in the Mountain Page community. It is said some of the family had some rooms of their houses in Greenville County, S.C., and other rooms in Henderson County. This property is now in the Greenville, S.C., Watershed between the Henderson County communities of Mountain Page and Tuxedo.
Benjamin and his wife, Mary Wood Staton, were members of Mountain Page Baptist Church.

114. Benjamin Staton, born 1755 in Amherst or Buckingham Co., VA; died 1858 in Hendersonville, NC. He was the son of
228. Joseph Staton, Sr. and 229. Jane Stockley.
Notes for Benjamin Staton:
From Staton History, by Rev. John Staton, page 579 he gives a complete account of Benjamin Staton--Benjamin was probably born
in Amherst or Buckingham Co Va. in 1755, and died at Hendersonville NC, 1858-perhaps he is buried in an unmarked grave at
Refuge Baptist Church at Dana, NC, about 5 miles SE of Hendersonville NC. He said we know about the location of Samuel
Gordon Staton, (one of Benjamin) grave marked with a large unmarked rock, and his slave buried at his feet. He said that perhaps
Benjamin was also buried in an unmarked grave beside his son, Samuel Gordon--There are about 5 unmarked graves in one place,
surrounded by Well-marked graves of Staton's only. He said he was told the unmarked graves were of the Oldest Statons, beginning
with John Walter 1833-1915, all of the graves for the Statons are carefully marked by good monuments (some very large).
It is thought that Benjamin was in the Revolutionary War, saw this area about the time of the Battle of Kings Mountain, and Battle
of Cowpens.
In 1959 Balus Walker Staton (then 95 yo), he was the son of Banjamin Allen Staton, grandson of Samuel Gordon Staton, and Great
Grandson of Benjamin Staton of Amherst County Va.--He said the older Staton carefully explained how they went from Amherst
Va., by wagon or ox, in groups--the 1850 U.S. Census revealed that he was correct. He also states that only one of the children
remained in NC, Samuel Gordon Staton.
