1821 Elizabeth Pounce named grandchildren Sally Tart and Jonathan Tart and son-in-law William Staton and his wife Nancy [perhaps Nancy was the mother of the Tart children through her first marriage?] in her will. [1] [2] [3] [4]
1822 Anderson [perhaps William's son or brother] Staton and Sally Tart were married on December 23 in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Samuel Gordon [perhaps the spouse of William's sister Mary Staton] was the bondsman. [5] [6] [7]
1830 Anderson Staton was appointed administrator on the estate of Martha Ann Last who entered bonds to John Own governor … with Benjamin Staton … . [8]
1834 William Staton sold land to Sanders Allen for $1. William had purchased the land from James Bradley. Witnessed by Walton Staton. [9]
1834 William Staton brought a court suit against Sanders Allen concerning an enslaved person named Abraham. [10]
1837 William Staton dated his will on April 7. [11] The will was recorded in court in September 1846. The will named wife Nancy Staton and children James Staton and Anderson Staton. The will suggests that James and Anderson may have been by a different wife than Nancy: "My will is that my wife Nancy Staton has the balance of my stuff during her life if she should out live me My will is that there shall be an equal divide with all my children James Staton and Anderson Staton to be equal in the divide with my children. I do appoint James Staton and Anderson Staton my executors …". [12] [13]
1837 James Staton [perhaps the spouse of William's sister Jane] personally reported to the clerk of the court that William Metcalf [perhaps the spouse of William's sister Nancy] had made a payment on his mortgage to Anderson Staton [perhaps a son of William]. [14]
1840 Anderson Staton [perhaps a son of William] lived in Rutherford County, North Carolina in a household with free white males: 1 (10 thru 14) and 1 (30 thru 39); and free white females: 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (10 thru 14), and 1 (20 thru 29); and 3 enslaved persons. [15]
1843 Anderson Staton conveyed property to William H Walton, regarding debts that Anderson Staton owed to John McEntire and Robert Twitty. The land was on the south bank of Main Broad River adjacent to lands of Behj Staton and Malinda Allen. [16] [17]
1845 Walton Staton of Henderson County provided security for debts of Anderson Staton [perhaps a son of William] of Rutherford County, North Carolina. [18]
1846 Anderson Staten [perhaps a son of William] had been appointed one of the executors of Wm Staten by the Rutherford County court (Fall term). [19]
1847 Efforts were made to collect debts due by Anderson Staton.
1849 William Staton sold land to John Tart and Anderson Staton on February 28 for $10 per year for the life of William Staton. The land was on the south side of Broad River and was "a part of three surveys includiong all the land that James Bradley got from DresKills(?) had to the original to have and to hold … belonging to the said Jonathan [Tart? Text is hidden between pages in the center of book] and Anderson Staton forever and the said William Staton for himself heirs executors administrators shall and will forever defend the said land … unto the said Tart and Staton". Witnessed by L.D. Allen. Proved by Ja's Staton [perhaps a son of William or perhaps the spouse of William's sister Jane]. [20] [21]
1849 Nancy Staton [perhaps the widow of William] sold land to Walton Staton (in trust) for $1 in Rutherford County, North Carolina on May 28. The land was for the use of Sarah Staton [perhaps the widow of William's son Anderson] during her natural life and then to her (Sarah's) heirs Clarky, Jonathan, Lisey, Wm, & Benjamin Staton, my (Nancy's) grandchildren. The land was on the south side of Main Broad River. The land had been owned by James Bradley then sold to Wm & Nancy Staton his wife and then to her (Nancy's) heirs namely Jonathan Tart and Sarah Tart. [22]
1850 Anderson Staton and wife Sally sold an enslaved person and children to Elias Lynch in Rutherford, North Caroliina. [23]
1850 A handwriting witness testified to the signature of Walton Staton. Walton had witnessed a mortgage made by Anderson and Sarah Staton. Walton Staton was now deceased and Reuben R Staton the other witness was out of the county. [24]
1850 Sarah Staton (age 47, born in South Carolina) lived in Polk Twp, Rutherford County, North Carolina, in a household with Johnathan Staton (23), Eliza Staton (17), Wm Staton (6), and Benjamin Staton (4). [25]
1850 Anderson Staten (age 48, born in South Carolina) lived in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in a household with S M Allen (44). [26]
1853 Anderson Staton of Spartanburg, South Carolina sold land on Broad River to Jonathan Staton of Rutherford.

It is not clear which documents naming Anderson Staton refer to the son of William Staton and Nancy Tart and which refer to the son of Benjamin Staton and Mary Wood.
