Research Notes:

We suspect that John Hainsey had children by 2 or 3 women, based on the five children named in his obituary of 1915. John's obituary reported that he married Miss Rebecca Butler in 1866. The 1900 census reports that Rebecca had 3 living children and one deceased, who are accounted for by the children that we list for Rebecca. The obituary named Mrs. Jane Hueston as one of their daughters. However, the 1927 death certificate of Rebecca Jane Hainsey Huston reported her birth year as 1861 (before John Hainsey and Rebecca Butler were married) and the names of her parents as John Hainsey and Rebeca Miller. The 1941 death certificate for William, perhaps the son named in the obituary of John, reports William's birth in 1855 with mother Elizabeth Weyant. The 1957 death certificate of Mrs Effie Dell named Effie's parents as John Hainsey and Rebecca Butler. Son Samuel was born before 1866, according to early census records, but census records after his second marriage report a birth in 1866 and with middle name Butler. We seek further clarification of these possible relationships.
