Daniel Slick was born at Akron, Pa., Aug. 7, 1823.
As a young man he was converted to God and joined the Evangelical Association, to which he proved faithful.
He emigrated to Illinois in May, 1844, and settled near Naperville. On the first of August, 1846, he united with Margaret Schwilly in marriage, and then moved on the farm near Copenhagen, later to Wheatland, Will County, Ill., where they lived until they moved to Naperville about 20 years ago.
Four sons and four daughters were born to them. Three of the daughters died in their youth.
Mr. Slick was a hard working man in his day; the primitive state of things in this then new country furnished ample opportunity for hard labor and constant toil. He was of a quiet disposition and of an upright character.
He was a man who believed in God and who desired the advancement of Christ's kingdom. When about 42 years ago the Rev. Mr. Dickover came into the settlement to proclaim the will of God in Christ Jesus, and there being no church in which to hold divine services father and mother Slick opened their house to the public and possibly the greatest revival in the west, continuing for six weeks, was held in their home. As a loving father he took interest in the spiritual and temporal welfare of his children.
In the latter years he began to fail and to go down under the pressure of old age. When his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Daniel Slick, passed away five weeks ago, he seemed to be overwhelmed with grief which likely helped to speed the day of his death.
Last Friday, Nov. 6, his spirit took its flight to the mansions above. He reached the age of 80 years and 3 months.
