DIVORCE NOTICE. Thomas A. Burke, whose place of residence is unknown to petitioner, is hereby notified that Mary M. Burke did, on the 25th day of September, A. D. 1882, file her petition in the office of the Clerk of the Conrt of Common Pleas, of within and for the County of Darke and State Ohio, charging the sald Thomas A. Burke with gross neglect of duty, and asking that she may be divorced from the said Thomas A. Burke and for the custody of their daughter Stella; which petition will stand for hearIng on or after six weeks from the date of the first publication of this notice, the next term of said court. 1883 Mary M. Burke and John Gard were married on April 12, 1883, in Darke County, Ohio. (FHL film 001030773). [8]

1883 Charles Carlile Gard, child of John Gard and Mary Eichelbeyer, was born on November 18, 1883, in Darke County, Ohio. [9]

1887 Nina Gard, son of John Gard and Mary Eichelbarger, was born on August 7 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. [10]

1900 Mary N Gard (born in Pennsylvania in Jun 1847, divorced) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Cora A Gard (age 14), Nina C Gard (age 12), and William C Jennings (age 46). Mary N Gard's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. [13]

1903 Samuel Cavender and Cora I. Gard were married on August 28 in Montgomery County, Ohio. Cora I. Gard, child of John Gard and Mary M Eichelbarger, was born about 1883. (FHL film 001030846). [14]

1910 Cora Cavender (age 24, born in Ohio, married for 7 years), wife, lived in Salt Lake City Ward 2, Salt Lake County, Utah, in a household with Samuel Cavender (26). Cora Cavender's parents were both born in Ohio. Cora Cavender could read and write. [15]

The Democratic Advocate, Greenville, Ohio, March 30, 1905. [17]

Mrs. Mary Gard, widow of the late John Gard, of Union City, met with a horrible death Monday about 5 o'clock at her home on Division street in the above named city.

Mrs. Gard, who was about fifty years of age, lived in her home and as a boarder Calvin Jennings. She has four grown children, but all are away from home. Mrs. Gard, was an esteemed lady and of the very industrious kind.

During all of Monday she had cleaned her yard and had the rubbish piled high in the back yard. About 4:30 o'clock she set fire to it and while attending it, an unsually high fame set fire to her dress waist. … [She died]

Mrs. Gard was twice married, her maiden name being Eichelberger. Her first husband's name was Burke and by him her children were born. Her second husband was John Gard, a brother of Matt and Joe Gard, of Union City. She was a highly esteemed woman and her horrible death was deplored by all.

The deceased lady is a cousin of Uriah S. Gard, and a sister of Mrs. Sylvester Wolf, of this city.

Mrs. Mary. Gard, who was burned to death at Union City Monday evening, buried Tuesday afternoon 3 o'clock. Interment in the Teegarden Cemetery.

1905 Mary M. Eichelberger Gard died on March 27, 1905 and was buried at Teegarden Congregational Christian Church Cemetery, Ansonia, Darke County, Ohio. [19][20]

1910 Nina Cavender (age 22, born in Iowa, married for 3 years), wife, lived in Dayton Ward 7, Montgomery County, Ohio, in a household with Benjamin Cavender (age 25), Harold Cavender (age 2), and Frank Negley (age 48). Nina Cavender's parents were both born in Iowa. Nina Cavender could read and write. [22]

1911 Charles Carlice Gard, son of John Gard and Mary Eckelberger, got a license in Indiana to marry Anna May Jennings. Dated January 11, 1911. Charles was born on November 18, 1883 in Darke County, Ohio. (FHL film 001655010). [23]

1918 Charles Carlias Gard registered For the draft in Randolph County, Indiana. He was born on November 18, 1883. He had characteristics: Light hair, Gray eyes, Medium build, and Medium height. His nearest relative was May Gard. [24]

1922 Daniel H Ginney and [Nina C Gard] were married on August 3 in Lucas County, Ohio. [Nina C Gard], child of John R Gard and Mary Ichelbergh, was born about 1890. (FHL film 002166647). [25]

1935 Charles Gard and Ada Anderson were married on August 27 in Indiana. Charles Gard, child of John Gard and Mary Eckerbarger, was born on November 18, 1883. [26]

1942 Charles Carlisle Gard registered For the draft in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was born on November 18, 1883 in Union City, Ohio. His nearest relative was Ada Guard. [27]

1960 Charles Gard, spouse of Anna Mae Gard, died in 1960. He was born in 1883, son of Mary M Gard. [28]

1989 Mary Lail, spouse of Robert Lee Lail, died on January 10. She was born on June 8, 1916, daughter of Charles Gard and Anna Mae Gard. [29]

Research Notes:

Josiah Grill is shown speculatively as a spouse of Mary Eichelberger because his children were grand children of Joseph Eichleberger.

1850 Josiah Grill (age 4, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Elizabeth Grill (age 41). [30]

1860 J Grill (age 13, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with G Troutwine (age 68), E Troutwine (age 46), G Troutwine (age 4), R Troutwine (age 2), E Grill (age 17), S Grill (age 15), and J Harison (age 22). [31]

1864 Joseph Grill, son of Josiah Grill and Mary Eichleburger, was born on March 6, 1864, in Union City, Ohio. [32]

Josiah F. Grill was a Corporal in the 191st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry of the Union Army during the Civil War. [33]

Josiah F. Grill was a Private in the 6th Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserve Infantry (35th Volunteers) of the Union Army during the Civil War. [34]

1870 Joseph Eichelberger (age 50, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Ohio, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Caroline Eichelberger (age 44), Washington Eichelberger (age 21), Jane A Eichelberger (age 18), James B Eichelberger (age 16), Laura V Eichelberger (age 13), and Cora (age 1). Joseph Eichelberger's occupation was farm laborer. [35]

1879 A pension record identified Josiah F. Grill as an invalid, dated December 10, 1879. Josiah F. Eichelberger was named as a guardian for a minor (dated June 24, 1880). [36] [37] [38]

1880 I.F. Grill died on February 19 and was buried near Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Ohio. [39] [40]

Mr. Josiah F. Grill, of Mechnicsburg, was killed by the cars in the vicinity of Washington, D. C, on Thursday night of last week. On Saturday night his remains were received at Mechanicsburg, and the following day were buried at the Trindle Spring graveyard, with the honors of war, by squad of veterans.

Mr. Grill was on his way to Washington to urge a pension claim. He was a remarkably fine looking man, about forty years of age..

1880 Joseph Eichelberger (age 60) and Caroline Eichelberger (age 55) lived in Jackson Twp, Darke County, Ohio. Daughter Cora A (age 11) lived with them. Also in the household were grandchildren Josiah F Grill (age 11), and Joseph H Grill (age 13). Next door was son James B Eichelberger. [42]

1880 A pension card records: Josiah F Grill. Josiah F Eichelberger, Gdn. E 191 & E 35, PA Inf. Invalid Dec 10, 1879. Minor June 1880. [43]

1899 A pension was granted for the service of Josiah F Grill of Union City.

1900 Josiah F Grill (born in Pennsylvania in Nov 1868, married) lived in Mississinawa Twp, Darke County, Ohio, in a household with Mary L Grill (age 26), Hazel E Grill (age 6), Ethel M Grill (age 4), Forest D Grill (age 1), and half brother Charles Gard (age 16). Josiah F Grill's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. Josiah F Grill's occupation was farmer. [45]

1942 Son Joseph Grill died on April 6. His obituary named surviving siblings Nina Ginney, Cora Miller, and Charles Gard (all half-siblings of Dayton). [46]
