1771 Robert Macky wrote his will on November 14. [1]

I Robert Macky of Budge Row in the City of London and now of London Field in the Parish of Hackney in the County of Middlesex Merchant do make and publish my last Will and Testament in manner following I Give and devise unto my Nephew Robert Macky of Mile End in the parish of Stepney otherwise Stebonheath in the said County of Middlesex Madeira Mercht. Son of my Brother John Macky dec'ed All that my Freehold Estate consisting of a piece or parcel of Ground situate lying and being in London Field aforesaid with the Messuage or tenement theron erected wherein I now dwell and the Garden Brewhouse Coachhouse Stable and other Buildings theron erected with their Appurt's To have and to hold for ever And I do also give and devise to him the said Robert Macky all my Freehold Messusages Lands Tenemenets and Heredits situate and being in the City of Exeter and all other my Real Estates whatsoever and wheresoever To have and to hold to him the said Robert Macky his heirs and assigns fore ever And my will is and I do hereby order and direct that the Sum of Twenty thousand Pounds part of my personal Estate shall immediately after my decease be laid out and invested in some or one of the publick Stocks or on Government Securites in the joint Names of the Executors of this my Will as a Fund more than sufficient for them or the Survivors or Survivor thereout to pay and satisfy my just Debts and all the Annuities bequests and Legacies by me given and bequeathed in and by this my Will in manner hereinafter mentioned that is to say I do give and bequeath unto my Niece Elizabeth Macky Sister to the abovenamed Robert Macky One Annuity or yearly Sum of Two hundred pounds to be paid to her in half yearly payments of One hundred pounds each from the time of my decease for and during the Term of her natural life for her own seperate use and benefit whether sole or Covert and not subject or liable to the Controul Debts or Engagements of any Person with whom she may intermarry and that her Receipt only shall be a sufficient discharge or Acquittance for the same And I do give and bequeath unto Iphigent Armstrong Daughter of my Niece Jane the wife of Captain Edmund Armstrong of Greenwich in the County of Kent if She lives to attain the Age of twenty one years and not otherwise One Annuity or yearly Sum of Two hundred Pounds to be paid to her in half yearly Payments of One hundred Pounds each from the time of her attaining the said Age or twenty One years as aforesaid for and during the Term of her natural life And I do give and bequeath unto John Macky only Son of my Nephew Patrick Macky late of Coleraine in the Kingdom of Ireland deceased now of the Age of Ten years or thereabouts if he shall be living at the Age of twenty One years the Sum of Five Thousand Pounds to be paid to him at that time with all the Interest thereof accumulated thereon by my Ex'ors hereinafter named And my Will is that my Ex'ors shall in the mean time pay to or apply for and towards his Maintenance and Education or Advancement in life such Sum or Sums of Money as they in their discretion shall think fit which said Sum or Sums my Will is shall not Exceed One hundred and fifty pounds pr. Annum or be less than fifty Pounds pr. Annum And I do give and bequeath unto Ann Whitford of Edmonton in the County of Middlesex One Annuity or yearly Sum of fifty pounds payable half yearly by equal Payments of twenty five pounds from the time of my decease for and during the Term of her natural life And I do give and bequeath unto her Son Aged thirteen years or thereabouts commonly called or known by the Name of Robert Whitford and now residing with her and Educating at the School kept there by Mr. James Ware if he shall live to attain the Age of twenty One years the sum of Two Thousand Pounds to be paid in manner following Vizt. Five hundred pounds or such other Sum not exceeding Five hundred pounds as an Apprentice fee or other wise towards placing him out or advancing him in the World at such time as my Ex'ors hereinafter named in their discretion shall think fit and the Remainder of the said Two Thousand Pounds when and so soon as he shall attain the said age of twenty One years and in the mean time pay and apply for and towards his Maintenance and Education until he shall be so placed out as aforesaid such part of the Interest of the said Sum of Two Thousand Pounds as they shall think fit and from and after the time of his being so placed out as aforesaid pay and apply such part of the Interest or the then Remainder of the said Two Thousand Pounds for his decent support during his Apprenticeship until he shall attain his said age of Twenty One years and when and so soon as he shall attain the said Age of twenty One years the said Allowance shall cease and the Remainder of the Interest not paid or apply'd as aforesaid together with the Remainder of the said Two Thousand Pounds shall be paid to him the said Robert Whitford after deducting the Money above directed to be paid as an Apprentice fee or towards advancing him in the World in manner aforesaid And I hereby Order and direct my Ex'ors hereinafter named out of the said Fund to be raised as aforesaid for payment of Debts Annuities and Legacies to pay or cause to be paid at such times and in such manner as they shall think fit into the proper hands of Edward Scanlan late of Stockholm in Sweden Merchant forty Pounds yearly and every year from the time of my decease for and during the Term of his natural life for his sole use and benefit and not subject or liable to any Debts already out and owning or that shall at any time hereafter become due and owing from him to any Person or Persons on any Account whatsoever And I do give and bequeath unto my worthy Friend Robert Allen of Ironmonger Lane London Linnen Merchant and unto my worthy friend William Semple of Charles Street in the Parish of Saint James Westminster in the County of Middlesix aforesd. Esquire twp of my Executors hereinafter named five hundred pounds a piece as a small acknowledgement of the trouble they may have in the Execution of the Trusts hereby in them reposed and unto the hon'ble George Macky and unto the hon'ble General Alexander Mackay One hundred Guineas each to purchase therewith a Diamond Ring for each of their respective wives and unto my Kinsman Walter Patterson Esquire Governor of the Island of Saint John in North America One hundred Guineas to purchase Rings for his Wife and himself of that Value And to unto his Brother John Patterson, of New York in America fifty Guineas for Rings for his Wife and himself of that Value And unto Anthony Askew Physician, to Stain Bartholomews Hospital fifty Guineas and unto Ebenezer Forrest of York Buildings in the County of Middlesex Gentleman fifty Guineas And to St. Bartholomews Hospital One Thousand pounds and the like Sum of One Thousand Pounds to the hospital of Bethlehem and five hundred Pounds to the London hospital and the like Sum of five hundred Pounds to St. Thomas's Hospital, to be paid to the Treasurers of the said Hospitals for the time being respectively And I do give to my faithful Servant Daniel Brookes all my Wearing Apparel Woolen and Linnen laced and plain and Thirty Guineas over and besides what may be deemed justly due to him for his wages in my Service and unto my Women Servants Mary Pasfeild Mary Nicholls Mary Eaton and my other Maid Servant at my house in Budge Row Ten Guineas each over and above the Wages due them at the time of my decease And my Will is that all the above mentioned Legacies be paid within Six months next after my decease And I give unto John Motier my Bookkeeper over and above the Salary that may be due to him at the time of my decease One hundred pounds upon Condition of his settling my Books of Account to that time and not otherwise and unto Matthew Charley my Clerk over and above the Salary that may be due to him at the time of my decease Eighty Pounds on Condition of his assiting the said John Motier in settling my said Books of Account and unto Angus Macky my other Clerk over and above his Salary that may be due to him Two Hundred Pounds upon Condition of his closing all my Accounts particularly the Insurances under his Care to the satisfaction of my Ex'ors And I do acquit release and discharge William Patterson of Letterkenny and Walter Patterson Daniel Patterson and John Patterson his Sons from all Claims and demands I have on them for Money due to me on their Bond or Bonds only and not on any other Account and I do hereby Order and direct that such Bond or Bonds shall be dilivered up to be cancelled And I do give and bequeath all the Residue and Remainder of my Personal Estate of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever that I shall be possessed of interested in or intitled to at the time of my decease my just Debts Funeral Expences and the above mentioned Annuities bequests and Legacies being first paid and satisfyed uno my Nephew the abovenamed Robert Macky and I do constitute and appoint the said Robert Macky Robert Allen and William Semple Executors of this my Will which hereby revoking all others I declare to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Robert Macky have to the three foregoing Sheets of this my Will contained in four Sheets of Paper set my hand and to this fourth Sheet therof set my hand and Seal this fourteenth day of November in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy One Rob. Macky Signed Sealed Published and declared by the said Robert Macky the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of us who at his request Subscribe Our Names as Witnesses hereto in his presence and in the Presence of each other. 1771 Robert Macky added additional instructions to his will on November 17. [2]

The Sundry Special Injunctions which I Charge my Nephew Robt. Macky to see executed though not mentioned in my Will Vizt. Five Hundred Pounds to John Wilkes Esqr. if it appears to my Execrs. that he will have Occasion for that Money to discharge all the dutys and Expences of his Office of Sherriff but from what I know I should think he would not have Occasion for it I give to the Irish Protestant Charter Schools One Hundred Pounds payable in six Months I believe it is mentioned in mhy Will all the Linnen to my Man Daniel but that neither is or was intended only my own Body Linnen then in use there is a New Piece of Linnen cut in Budge Row I give that to my Niece Eliza Macky and to my Nephew Robt Macky all my wrought Ruffles there in a great Number of Old Shirts in Budge Row useless to Daniel which I think should be equally divided among the Maids in Budge and Hackney A Gold Ring Value Two Guineas to be give to each Member of the Beef Stake Society and the Motto about which Mr Forrest will give Directions there is a poor Woman that lives a little below in the Town call'd Sarah Banks that I have given for some years past fifty pounds a year to and she is paid up to the first of May next Now I desire that said Pension may not only be continued but Increased Ten or Twenty Pounds a year if she behaves decently and quietly after my decease and this at the discretion of my Nephew Robt. Macky. Rob. Macky. Hackney 17th. Novembr. Seventeen hundred and Seventy One.

1771 Robert Macky was buried on November 30 at St John, Hackney, Middlesex. [3]

1771 The will of Robert Macky was proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbuy on December 3. [4]

This Will was proved at London with a Codicil the third day of December in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy One … by the oaths of Robert Macky the Nephew of the deceased Robert Allen and Wiliam Semple the Executors named in the Will to whom Administration was granted …
