The will of Joseph Blackwell, proved in Fauquier Co. in 1787 names wife Lucy Steptoe (daughter of Capt. John Steptoe, who made his will in Northumberland Co. in 1741), and his nine children viz: (1) Joseph, married Ann Eustice; (2) Samuel; (3) John, born March 22, 1755, married 1779 Agatha Ann Eustace; (4) George Steptoe; (5) Judith, married Thomas Keith; (6) Ann, married Martin Pickett; (7) Letitia, married John Chilton and left issue; (8) Elizabeth, married Charles Chilton; (9) Lucy married William Slaughter. Judith Keith (sixth (6) child of Joseph Blackwell and spouse of Thomas Keith) signed a statement naming her brothers John and Joseph Blackwell and describing their service in the Revolutionary War. After the war, brother Joseph was a partner of Martin Pickett near Warrenton, Virginia. [2]
Daughter Lucy Blackwell married William Slaughter [3] or married William Stanton on September 24, 1773 and had child Joseph Blackwell Stanton, of Tennessee.
