1832 The will of Peter Steffie was dated June 4 in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania. The will named wife Rachel, brother Jacob Steffie, and brother in law Henry Ruhl. The plantation was to be sold after 8 years. The will was proved on July 25. [1]

1833-40 The widow and heirs of Peter Steffy were taxed in Codorus Twp, York County, Pennsylvania with 165 acres. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10]

1936 John B Wentz was appointed guardian for Catharine (age over 14) andGeorge (under age 14). Henry Snyder was appointed guardian for Caroline, Sally (Sarah), and Margaret, all under age 14. [11]

1872 Land from the estates of Peter Steffy and Rachel Steffy was sold in York County, Pennsylvania. See York County deeds 5I-348, a deed from George W Steffy to George Meyer, and 5I-351 (extract below). [17]

I Henry Slick of York county and state of Pennsylvania duly appointed by Power of Attorney dated March fifth A.D. eighteen hundred seventy two by Daniel W. Steffy, Jacob H Steffy, Catharine Snyder, Elizabeth Nafe, Caroline Low, Margaret Smith, and Edward Snyder all of Morrow County Ohio, seven of the legal heirs of Peter Steffy & Rachel Steffy his wife both deceased to receive their shares and of the Dower fund in the place of George & Rose Meyers present occupants. Now be it known that I have received two hundred & sixteen dollars & forty one cents being the seven shares in full with the interest for one year included out of said dower fund and paid by the same George & Rosa Meyers the present occupants of part of the real estate of the said Peter Steffy & wife deceased according to the intestate law, one third remained in said plantation during the natural life of Rachel Steffy widow of Peter Steffy deceased, it being in full for the seven shares out of the said dower fund, together with the interest thereon for one year the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged …

Research Notes:

Who was Edward Snyder, heir of Peter Steffy? Was Edward a son of Henry Snyder and a first wife before Catharine? Perhaps Henry Snyder married, first, Sarah Steffy and had child Edward. Then Edward would inherit Sarah's share.
