1645 Thomas Norton of Stamford in the County of Lincoln Shoemaker wrote his will on September 20. [17]

In the name of God Amen: The xxth daye of September Anno Dmi 1645 I Thomas Norton of Stamford in the Countie of Lincolne Shoemaker being sick of bodye but of good and perfect memorie (god be praysed) dor make and ordaine this my last will and testament revoking therby all other former wills First I commend my soulr into the hands of god my Creator hopeing assuredly through thonly merrits of Jusus Christ my saviour to be make partaker of life everlasting and my bodye to thearth whereof it was made; And touching that my messuage wherein I live in the parrish of St Michaell in Stamford aforesayd I doe geve and bequeath to be devided as followeth That is to saie First I doe give and bequeath the hall parlour and Shopp with ye Chambers over them vnto Anne my wife and my 2 sones James and edmond To have and to hould the same vnot my said wife and her assignes dureing her nrall life and after her decease vnto my sayd sonnes and to her heires forever. And my will is that my sayd wife shall have all and singuler that my estate in Barrowden in the County of Rutland. Item I doe give and bequeath vnto my sayd wife all and singuler my wood leather shoes money and bonds together with the breweing Copper and Vessells thereto belonging. Item I doe give and bequeath vnto my sonne Thomas Norton That my Shopp parcell of the foresayd mesuage being now or late in the occupacon of Francis Caldwell of of his assignes, and the Butterie with the Chambers over them and his heyres forever. Item I give and bequeath vnto my Sonne John Norton that my Shopp another part of that my sayd messuage now in the occupacon of Bartholomew Andrewes and three Chambers and the Stable; To have and to hould ye same to him and his heyres forever. Item I give vnto my daughter Sarah that my Celler with the two Shoppes over it now or late in the occupacon of Francis Haxton and Stephen Algate, with the Chambers over them and the Stayres being another part of my sayd messuage. To have and to hould the sme vnot her and her heyres forever; And my will is that my sayd wife and Children and their heyres shall have free entrye egresse & regresse to and from the house of Office and yarde And yf it fortune that wither of my sonnes Thomas and John shall depart this life without yssue of either of their bodyes lawfully begotten Then I will that that part of my sayd messuage of either of them deceased shall come to the other of them surviveing And yf both of my said sonnes Thomas and John shall depart this life without yssue of either of their bodyes lawfully begotten; and either of my said Sonnes James or Edmonde liveing Then I will that that of my said sonnes James or Edmonde which shalbe then liveing shall inherite bothe their partes of my sayd messuage And yf they the sayd James and Edmond shallbe both liveing Then the estate of my said two Thomas and John deceased in my said messuage shall descend & come to both my said sonnes James and Edmond to be equally devided betweene them. And yf it shall fortune that my two sonnes James and Edmonde shall departe this life without yssue of their bodies lawfully begotten Then I will that that part of my sayd messuage hereby given vnto them shall goe vnto my sonne Thomas and his heyres And if my sayd sonne Thomas be then deceased without yssur of his bodie lawfully begotten and my Sonne John be then liveing Then I will it to foe to my sayd sonne John ANd yf it shall forture all my sayd Sonnes Thomas John James and Edmond shall depart this life without yssue of their bodies lawfully begotten Then I will that my daughter Sarah shall inherite every one of their parts of my sayd messuage of And yf all my said sonnes and daughter Sarah shall depart this life without yssue of their bodies lawfully begotten Then I will the sayd messuage with all and everie the appurtenances thereunto belonging shall foe to the next of my bloud of the Nortons. Item I doe give and bequeath vnto everie of my sonnes and daughter Thomas John James Edmond & Sarah the summe of five pounds a peece of lawfull English money to be paid vnto my said sonnes att their severall ages of one and Twenty years and to my said daughter at her daye of marriage or eigthteene yeares wch shall first happen; And in case any of my said Children shall depart this life before he or shee shall accomplish their severall age whereby their said porcons of five pounds a peece shall accrue due to be payed then my will is that the porcon or porcons of him her or them soe dyeing shall remayne to be equally devided amonge the rest of my Children surviving. Item I doe give vnto every one of my said children one bed fully furnished six peeces of pewter and one brasse pott one brasse pann and one Chest. The sayd several goods to be delivered to my said sonnes at their severall age of one and twenty yeares and to my said daughter at her age of eighteene yeares or day of marriage wch shall first happen. Item I doe give vnto my sonne and daughter in lawe Roger Willy and Anne Willy five shillings a peece. Item I give vnto every one of my servants dwelling with me at the daye of my death twelve pence a peece Item I oe give vnto my Sonne Thomas two payre of Laste of everie size. Item I give vnto my sonne John two payre of Laste And all the residue of my Laste to my Sonnse James Item I give vnto my sonne Thomas a hammer and an old Freer. And yf my wife doe prove to be wth chile by me I doe give vnto it the summe of tenn pounds of lawfull English money Item I give vnto m sonnes Thomas and John and my daughter Sarah twenty shillings a peece wch y father Narton bequeathed vnto them All the residue of my goods and Chattles not given nor bequeathed my debts and legacies being payed and my funerall expence discharged I give and bequeath vnto Anne my wife and my brother Rowland Faire Childe whoe I make executors of this my last will and Testament And I desire Robert Fawcit gent and James Langton to be supervisors of this my will and I give vnto them for their paynes two shillings a peece. 1645/46 The will of Thomas Norton was proved on March 23 with administration granted to Anne Norton one of the executors with reservation to Rowland Fayrechild brother of the deceased and executor nominated.
