1850 Mrs. Mayo (age 17, born in Alabama) lived in Division 2, Santa Rosa County, Florida. She was a seamstress. [2] The adjacent household was for Malla Manning (age 35), perhaps her father, including daughter Caroline Manning (age 4, born in Alabama). [3]

1850 M D L Mayo and Catherine Chaney were married on December 29 in Barbour County, Alabama. (FHL film 001289482). Barbour County is adjacent to the Florida border. [4]

1860 Marquis D Mayo received a homestead in Alabama, Elba land office. [5]

1860 M C L Mayo (age 26, born in Alabama) lived in Division 2, Santa Rosa County, Florida, in a household with Martha E Mayo (24), Washington Mayo (7/12), and Caroline Manning (16) [perhaps Martha's sister]. M C L Mayo was a laborer. [6]

There are age discrepancies between the 1860 and 1870 census records. These might be different families.

1870 D L Mayo (age 45, born in Alabama) lived in Division 17, Orange County, Florida, in a household with Lucy M Mayo (40), William Mayo (13), James Mayo (11), Mary Mayo (9), and Marion F Mayo (6). D L Mayo was a farmer. [7]

1870 Marquis De Lafayette Mayo and wife Martha Ellen of Polk County, Florida sold land to Isaac Webster and Daniel Harper. The land was in section 24, township 21, Range 29E. [8] Two other deeds dated in June 1872 are listed in the index but the deed books are not available. [9]

1875 Marquis De Lafayette Mayo of Orange County, Florida received a patent for land in section 24, township 21, Range 29E (homestead entry 5222) on November 17. [10]

1875 Marquis De Lafayette Mayo and wife Martha Ellen of Orange County, Florida sold land to Isaac Webster and Daniel Harper on November 21. The land was called the Mayo Homestead in Orange County in section 24, township 21, Range 29E. [11]

1875 M.D.L. Mayo purchased land from Jacob and Fanny Sumerlein. The tract was in section 19, township 30 south, range 25 east of Polk County, Florida. [12]

1876 Marquis De Lafayette Mayo of Orange County, Florida had made full payment and received a patent for land in section 24, township 21, Range 29E (certificate 253). Made by President Ulysses S. Grant and dated April 5. [13] [14] [15]

1877 William W Mayo purchased land from the state of Florida. The tract was in section 19, township 30 south, range 25 east of Polk County, Florida. [16]

1880 Marques D. Mayo (age 68, born in Alabama, married) lived in Precinct 3 and 4, Polk County, Florida, in a household with Martha Mayo (44), James Mayo (16), Mary Mayo (14), Francis Mayo (12), and Samantha Mayo (10). Marques D. Mayo's parents were both born in Georgia. Marques D. Mayo was a farmer. [17]

1882-83 Marcellus Williams sold three tracts of land by separate deeds to Francis M. Mayo [18], James A Mayo [19], and M.D.L. Mayo [20]. The tracts were in section 19, township 30 south, range 25 east of Polk County, Florida.

1885 U D S Mayo (age 72, born in Alabama, married) lived in Polk County, Florida, in a household with Mary E Mayo (45), Francis Mayo (17), S M Mayo (13), John Mcgee (18), and Marshall Perry (29). U D S Mayo's parents were both born in Georgia. [21]

1900 Marks Mayo (born in Alabama in Dec 1812, married for 52 years) lived in Precinct 14, Polk County, Florida, in a household with Marthy E Mayo (63), and grandson Mark D L Mayo (12). Marks Mayo's parents were both born in Georgia. Marks Mayo was a farmer. Marks Mayo's residence was a farm. [25]

1905 Martha E Mayo, spouse of Marques De Lafayette Mayo, died on April 12. She was born on November 20, 1832. [26]

MR. MAYO, AGED 95, DIES OF CANCER OF THE FACE.

BARTOW, Jan. 23.-The sad news was circulated through Wednesday afternoon of the deathly Mr. D.
L. Mayo, one of the oldest citizens, not only in Bartow but the entire State. His death took place Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, at the home of Jas. A. Mayo, a son of the deceased. Mr. Mayo was a native Floridian, born 95 years ago in West Florida, near Pensacola. He served in the Mexican War and was a brave soldier. About 30 years ago, with his faithful wife, who died some years ago, he moved to Polk county, and has resided here ever since, engaging in business enterprises at various times.

The deceased had been suffering from cancer on his face for some time, and this, together with his advanced age, was the cause of his death. He was consistent member of the Methodist Church, and had lived an exemplary life. He leaves to mourn his death two sons, J. A. Mayo, of this city: F. M. Mayo, of Tampa, and two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Newsome, of Fort Meado, and Mrs. Frank Clark, wife of Congressman Clark, of Gainesville. The funeral services took place at the residence of Jas. A. Mayo at 10 o'clock, Rev. W. A. Mr. Plaxco officiating. The interment was in the new cemetery, under charge of Undertaker A. J. Angle.

Marquis Mayo's father was born in Alabama and his mother was born in Florida. Marquis Mayo could not read or write. Marquis Mayo was a painter. [32]

1917 Grandson [see 1900 census] Marquis H Lafayette Mayo registered For the draft in De Soto County, Florida. He was born on January 23, 1888 in Florida. He had characteristics: Dark Brown hair, Brown eyes, Slender build, and Short height. [33]

1920 [Grandson?] Marquis De Mays (age 30, born in Florida, married) lived in Tampa Ward 8, Hillsborough County, Florida, in a household with Julia Mayo (29), Ruth Mayo (8), and Marquis Mayo (5). Marquis De Mays's father was born in Georgia and his mother was born in Alabama. Marquis De Mays could read and write. Marquis De Mays was a painter. [34]

1945 Frank Dewey Mayo and Kathrine Louise Klein were married on April 15 in Williamsburg County, Virginia. Frank Dewey Mayo, child of Marques Delafayette Mayo and Julia Lovlace, was born about 1924. [35]

1946 Grandson? Marquis D. Mayo, spouse of Julia Mayo, died in 1946. He lived at 606 E, Lambright, Tampa. He was a Mason. [36] [37] [38]

1859 Valentine Mayo, married, died in August at age 92 in Monroe County, Tennessee. He died of Old Age. He was born in Virginia. [60]
