c1711 John Holloway was born in Burlington County, New Jersey, son of John Holloway and Mary Pharo.

1717 John Holloway was to receive £2 at age 21 in his father's will. [1]

1731 George Holloway and Ruth Wood were married on November 10, at Springfield, Burlington County. Witnessed by John Holloway and others. [2]

1733 John Holloway and Mary Smith, spinster, daughter of Tallman Smith married Mar. 23, 1733. License to John Holloway of Trenton, Hunterdon County, New Jersey and Mary Smith, spinster. [3]

1734 "John Holloway having taken a wife contrary to the discipline established among Friends sent in a paper to this meeting signifying that he had made a breach of the good order established among Friends having openly acknowledged the same and hopes for the future to be careful in his conversation and desires to be continued in the unity of Friends and that it may be..." Dated On 6 of month 4, at a Monthly Meeting in Chesterfield. [4]

1757 John and George, sons of John Holloway, deceased, were named in the will of John's uncle James Pharo of Chesterfield Twp, Burlington County. Dated November 17, 1757. [5]

1774 The will of Mary Halloway, of Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey named eldest son, John Halloway, one shilling. Youngest son, George Halloway, who lives in Virginia, in the County of Colepeper, near the Rappahanock river, a bed. Rest to be sold, and the money I give to said son, George. Executrix - Sarah Tole, wife of Richard Tole, of Shrewsbury. Witnesses - Mary Lippincott, Samuel Parker. Proved June 30, -1774. [6]

Research Notes:

1778 The Culpeper County, Virginia Deed Records contain a record of transfer of 200 acres from George Holloway and Mary, his wife, to George O'Neil for the sum of 130 pounds. Dated Aug. 13, 1778. [deed H-713]

John and Mary Holloway had two sons. The following reports are not yet documented:

1) John was born about 1734 in Burlington County, New Jersey. John was named in the wills of his mother and his grandmother's brother James Pharo. Living in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, in 1774. Married on Mar. 28, 1758 to Constant Handcock, the bondsmen including Tallman Smith, and witnesses including Joseph Imlay. Children: Joseph probably did not marry; Anna married Mr. Gifford; Anne; Mary; James; Samuel; and Peter. His will was dated May 2, 1783 and was proved Feb. 5, 1784 in Monmouth County, New Jersey, and named his wife and all children except Anna and Samuel. John Holloway had married contrary to the discipline of Friends. He sent an acknowledgment and desired to continue his membership with Friends.

2) George was born about 1737 in Burlington County, New Jersey. George Holloway who married Mary Emlay, July 25, 1761 by New Jersey License (Vol. H p. 246) Chesterfield Monthly Meeting of Friends (Vol A p. 318) 4th Month, 6th day, 1734. He died by March 1793 in Mercer County, Kentucky.
