1870 On June 11, E. R. Chevalley (age 40) and Julia Chevalley (age 30) lived in New Orleans Ward 13, Orleans County, Louisiana, with Eugenia Chevalley (age 17), Emile R Chevalley (age 15), Daniel Chevalley (age 12), George Chevalley (age 10), August Chevalley (age 8), Daura Chevalley (age 5), and Leonce Chevalley (age 5/12). All were born in Louisiana. E. R. Chevalley's occupation was coal & wood dealer. Also in the household was Theophile Molliere (age 16), cook. [1]

1880 On June 1, Emile R. Chevalley (age 51) and Julia Chevalley (age 40) lived in New Orleans, Orleans County, Louisiana, with Everett Chevalley (age 19), August Chevalley (age 17), Dora Chevalley (age 13), Leon Chevalley (age 10), Sidney Chevalley (age 8), Marshall Chevalley (age 6), and Agnes Chevalley (age 4). All were born in Louisiana as were their parents. Emile R. Chevalley's occupation was coal & wood merchant. Also in the household were three servants, Eva Louis (age 25), Joseph Nicholas (age 25), and Emily Gallager (age 29) and child Agnes Gallager (age 1). [2]

NECROLOGICAL.
E. R. Chevalley.

E. R. Chevalley, a man widely known and respected in New Orleans, died suddenly yesterday at noon while on his way to his home. About a quarter of an hour before he died Mr. Chevalley was speaking to one of his sons and seemed in perfect health. Heart failure was the cause of his death.
Deceased was born in New Orleans seventy years ago. He was educated in the public schools, and when a young man took a patriotic interest in the affairs of his country. During the civil war he served in the Confederate army, enlisting under Capt. Guy Drew. Upon his return home after the war he became prominent in politics. He was known as a determined man, a stern and unyielding patriot, and at one time organized an armed a band to oppose the Metropolitan police that had been sent to Jefferson City by the politicians then in power in New Orleans. He served in Jefferson as tax collector, sheriff, treasurer, and in nearly every other position of trust that his district had to give. When Jefferson City became the Sixth District of New Orleans be became Commissioner of Pub11c Buuldings. During Gov. Foster's first administration he served as a jury commissioner.
Mr. Chevalley was an Odd Fellow, and at one time a member of the Order of Druids. He was also an enthusiastic member of the Volunteer Fire Department during its existence, belonging to Independent Fire Company No. 2 and Protectire Fire Company No. 2. A widow, six sons and three daughters survive him.

1898 The funeral of E. R. Chevalley was held on December 14. The Biloxi Herald reported, [4]

Mr. Chevalley's Funeral.
The New Orleans Daily Item of yesterday contained the following regarding the funeral of the father of Mrs. Eugene Bakeler, of this city.
The funeral of Mr. E. R. Chevalley, yesterday afternoon, was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives, friends, and acquaintances of the deceased and his bereaved family. In this gathering were a large number of representative citizens from every walk of life, whose presence testified to the high esteem in which Mr. Chevalley had been held. The funeral service at the house, corner of Camp and General Taylor streets, was performed by Rev. J. P. Quintus, pastor of the German Evangelical Protestant church. The remains were consigned to their last resting place in the Carrolton cemetery.
