A Genealogy of the Meiser Family reports [6]

JOHN "JOHANNES" MEISER 3/7 AND DESCENDANTS JOHN (JOHANNES) MEISER 3/7, son of Johann Michael Meiser 2/2 (Johan Jurg Meisser 1/1) and Anna Elizabeth Sixt (thought to be Zecht), was born at Millbach in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, ca. 1732/1736 and died in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania ca. November 19, 1795 as per will filed at Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

He married Catharine prior to 1758. No record could be found on this marriage or of the bride's parents. No other dates and locations for Catharine could be determined.

Records reveal that John (Johannes) Meiser lived in the Millbach/Schaefferstown area (a son, George Michael, was baptized on March 27, 1758) and about 1776 or a year or two earlier, he moved to Penns Township in Northumberland County, as in this year he was listed as "additional resident" by Linn's "Annals of Buffalo Valley". Records show he took up land here and was taxed for the first time in 1776. He was road supervisor in Penns Town- ship in 1778. In 1781 he was assessed with a hundred acres of land and personal property. Three John Meisers lived in Penns Township at the same time. They were John Sr., his son, John Jr., and John, son of Henry Sr., who was a brother of John Sr.

In 1790 John Sr. was listed as having five males over sixteen and four females.

A John Meiser served in each of the following organizations:

1 - Captain Benjamin Weiser's Company, German Regiment Continental Line.
2 - Captain Michael Motz's Company.
3 - Captain John Snyder's Company.
4 - Captain Michael Weaver's Company.
5 - Ensign Simon Harrold's party.
6 - Lt. Jacob Speer's County Militia and Rangers.

The following service records are also listed for a John Meiser:

a John Meiser, Pvt., 8 days, Pennsylvania Archives S-5, Volume 9, page 680.
b John Meiser, Pvt., 9 days, Pennsylvania Archives, S-5, Volume 8, page 679.
c John Meiser, 6th & 7th Class, 2nd Batt., Lancaster Militia, 1781, Pennsylvania Archives, S-6, Volume 4.
d John Meiser, Northumberland County, Militia-Capt. John Snyder, Pennsylvania Archives, S-5, Volume 8.
e John Meiser, Rangers Frontier, 1778-1783, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania Archives, S-6, Volume 23. 363
f - John Meiser, Soldier of the Revolution, Continental Line, Northumberland County, 1778-1783, S-5, Volume 4, page 688.
g - John Meiser Penns Township, 1776, Private, Capt. Benj. Weiser, Northumberland County Militia; Also Capt. Michael Weaver-Capt. Charles Myers - Ranger (Meyser), Pennsylvania Archives S-3, Volume 23, page 256/257/341, Pennsylvania Archives S-5, Volume 8, page 662, also Capt. Michael Motz.

There seems to be no doubt whatsoever that John (Johannes) Meiser served in the Revolutionary War, particularly "g" above, as this is the date and locale of his residence at the time, based on historic and land and tax records.

John (Johannes) Meiser left a will probated at Sunbury, Pennsylvania, on November 19, 1795. It mentions children John, George, Margaret (Mrs. Peter Stoke) who had two daughters and who died before her father, Barbara (Mrs. George Coystervite) who also died before her father and who had children, Elizabeth, Margaret, Barbara and George Coystervite. The will further states John had three sons and four daughters but names only two sons-John and George-and two daughters, Mrs. Coystervite and Mrs. Stoke. He did not mention his wife, indicating she may have died before him. He was building a new house at the writing of his will, as he specified an additional ninety pounds of the first money to be paid to his son, George, for his "cost and trouble" to "finish" the house. The unnamed son is believed to be Jacob. This Jacob appears in Pennsylvania Archives S-6, Volume 23, as follows:

Penns Township 1776 - Northumberland Rangers, Jacob Meiser (son of John Meiser Sr.,) served under Capt. Michael Motz of Northumberland County Militia.

No record could be found proving this Jacob was the son of John (Johannes) Meiser, except the listing on page 57 of Snyder County Pioneers by Fisher.
