Notes for Thomas Abbott and Dorothy Swan

1625 "Thomas Abboot the sonne of George Abboot and Mary his was baptized the first day of September" at St Barnabas, Chappel, Essex, England. [1]

Research Notes:

The following account [2] has been superceded by more recent research which shows that George Abbott and his wife Mary Felstead had two sons named Thomas.

Thomas lived in Rowley; m. Dorothy, daughter of Richard Swan;, and d. in 1659, without issue. He was buried in Rowley Sept. 7, 1659. His wife survived him, and m., second, edward Chapman of Ipswich. Mr. Chapman d. April 18, 1678; and she m., third, Archelaus Woodman of Newbury Nov. 1678.

In Thomas Abbot's will he speaks of his brother Thomas Abbot; and in several deeds he is called brother by a Thomas Abbot. This has occasioned much perplexity in arranging the Abbot genealogies. The word 'brother' was probably used in the broader sense of kinsman.
