Peter N, Bechtel, died at his home in this city, Mondsy noon, Aug. 21st, In his 47th year, The deceased was born in Elkhart county, Indiana, March 25th, 1853, lived on the farm with his parents, (Jacob and Anna Beebtel) and was married, Jan 31, 1884, to Ella MeDowell, who has been his loving and devoted companion through life, and in his sickness untiring in her efforta to relieve his suffering.
They came to Peaboly in 1884, accompanied by bis parents. The following fall they moved on the Andy Gradle farm, where they made their home seven years, then moved to town, and he was employed by Davison & Co.
He had been in poor health at times for the past eight years, and medical treatment seemed to give no permanent benefit, so he tried the climate of Colorado this summer, hoping for benefit, but without avail. Last Saturday he returned much worse and rapidly failing, and in less than two days more passed peacefully to the better land.
The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, from the Evangelical church, the pastor, Rev. B. H. Hobbs officiating, and was largely attended by the many relatives and friends.
On account of the condition of the body, consequent upon the autopsy, the burial took place in the forenoon. The pall bearers were J.w., Walter and Vernon Nusbaum, Oliver and Vernon Hoover, and Emerson Sensenig, all nephews of the deceased.
Mr. Bechtel was an earnest and consistent member of the Evangelical eburch and always enjoyed the service of his Maker. He will be greatly missed in the home, the church and the Sunday School work.

1902 Mrs. Ella Bechtel and John G Cruff were married on September 18 in Peabody, Kansas.
On Thursday evening, Sept. 18, at the pretty home of the bride, the marriage of Mrs. Ella® Bechtel and Mr. John G. Cruff' was celebrated.
The solemn and impressive service was performed by Rev. Hartman, of the Evangelical church, and was witnessed by about forty relatives and friends of the bride. While congratulations were being offered the Peabody band, which bad : appeared on the suene, played some of its prettiest musie and continued through supper, which was served in two courses by four nieces of the bride the Misses Vinette Hoover, Mabel Moyer, Matie Nusbaum and Grace Nusbaum, who looked very sweet and pretty in graceful light dresses. The bride was very becomingly gowned in white muslin trimmed with ribbon and lace. A beautiful collection of cut glass, china and linen will serve to remind the bride, in after years, of this happy occasion, and the love and good will which prompted these generous gifts.
Mrs. Cruff has lived in Peabody a long time, but has but recently turned from Colorado Springs where she spent the last couple of years. During her residence here her Christian character and admirable qualities inade for her many warm friends. Mr. Cruff' is unknown to our citizens, but he has impressed very favorably all those who have met him.
He and his bride will leave soon for a visit in Nebraska before going to their home at Colorado Springs. The bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. McDowell, their son and their daughter, Mrs. Danner, of Newton, and Rev.
Febnel and wife, of Alden, were the out of town attendants.
