1811 Sophia Delahoy, daughter of James Olivant Delahoy and his wife Elizabeth, was born on January 26 in St Alphage, Greenwich, Kent, England. [1] [2]

This is to certify, that Sophia Delahoy, daughter of James Olivant Delahoy and Elizabeth his wife who was daughter of John & Elizabeth Omer, was born in No. 6 Deptford Bridge in the Parish of St. Alphege, Greenwich, in the County of Kent the twenty-sixth day of January in the year One thousand eight hundred and eleven at whose birth we were present Elizabeth Omer, Ann Rout. Registered at Dr. William's Library, Red Cross Street near Cripplegate, London. September 23rd 1831

1836 On 11 August, Sophia Delahoy and Gilbert Turnbull received a marriage license. [3]

1836 Sophia Delahoy and the Reverend Gilbert Turnbull were married at St Bride Fleet St, London, England on 16 August. [4]

1850 Robert (age 36) and Sophia (age 35) Daniel lived Baltimore, Maryland, Ward 10. Robert was a teacher and was born in Scotland. Sophia was born in England. [5]

1861 Sophia Delahoy died on June 24 in Baltimore, Maryland. A death notice stated, "Died. Suddenly, on Monday morning, 24th instant, Mrs. Sophia Delahoy, wife of Robert Daniel, Esq., of this city. Her funeral will take place on this (Tuesday) afternoon, at four o'clock, from her late residence on Hamilton Terrace, Eutaw street. The friends of the family and pupils of the school are invited to attend without further notice." [6]

1861 In August, A newspaper notice announced the plans for the next school year at the Collegiate Institute for Young Ladies in Baltimore, where Robert Daniel was principal.

COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE FOR YOUNG LADIES. HAMILTON TERRACE, 241 N. EUTAW ST.,
ROBERT DANIEL. F. E. I. S., PRINCIPAL.
The next annual session of this Institute will commence as usual on the SECOND MONDAY OF SEPTEMBER, 1861, with an efficient corps of Teachers. The Boarding Establishment will be under the superintendence of the Misses Daniel, nieces of the Principal, one of whom is a graduate of the Institution, and has had considerable experience in the instruction and management of Young Ladies in the South. The premises are conveniently and delightfully situated in the most elevated part of the city, with a handsome play ground attached, which is found Highly conducive to the health of the pupils.
Prospectuses of terms, etc., may be had on application.

1870 Robert Daniels (age 57) lived in Baltimore Ward 11, Baltimore County, Maryland, in a household with Cornelia Daniels (age 53), and Catherine Barber (age 20). Robert and Cornelia were teachers and Catherine was a servant. Robert Daniels was born in Scotland and his parents were both born of foreign birth. Cornelia was born in Connecticut and Catherine in Virginia. [9]

1877 The will of Robert Daniels was contested in the Maryland Court of Appeals on appeal from the Circuit Court of Baltimore City. [10]

The record in this case shows that Robert Daniel of the City of Baltimore, died in June, 1873, leaving a will, and the sole question for determination on this appeal is the validity or invalidity of the first clause of that will, which reads as follows:

"1st. I do hereby order and direct that the house and side lot where I now reside, situated on Hamilton Terrace, in the City of Baltimore, Nos. 239 and 241 N. Eutaw street, be sold by my executors hereinafter named, as soon after my death as they may deem expedient, and on such terms as they may think best; and I do hereby devise and bequeath the proceeds therefrom arising to the Magistrates and Town Council of the Royal Burgh of Dumfries, the county town of Dumfrieshire, Scotland, to be paid over to them by my executors aforesaid, together with such rents and profits of said property as may accrue up to the time of said sale, and which said executors shall collect; in trust and confidence nevertheless, to and for the uses, trusts and purposes following, that is to say, that they, the said Magistrages and Town Council, shall permanently invest said rents and profits and the proceeds of sale in Government stocks, or in other safe and profitable securities, and pay over the interet and dividends of such investments as they accrue and are received, to the High School of Dumfries, which is under their direction and care, either by increasing the salaries of teachers or providing scholarships, or in such manner as may seem best to said trustees, and most likely to promote the cause of eduction and elevate the standard of instruction in the said High School of Dumfries.
