Notes for Daniel W Meals and Rachel Miller

1812 Daniel Meals, perhaps this one, served in Captain Armstrong Campbell's company of the Pennsylvania Militia in the War of 1812. His pension file named widow Rachel Meals. [1] [2] Daniel also served in Cobean's Battalion of the Pennsylvania volunteers. [3]

1822 Rachel, wife of Daniel Meals, was named as the daughter of Philip Miller in his will dated September 9 in Huntington Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Meals was named as executor. [4] [5]

1830 Daniel Meals lived in Menallen Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (10 thru 14), 1 (20 thru 29), 1 (30 thru 39), 1 (5 thru 9), and 1 (20 thru 29); and females: 1 (5 thru 9) and 1 (20 thru 29). [6]

1840 Dan'l Meals lived in Menallen Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania in a household with males: 1 (10 thru 14) and 1 (40 thru 49); and females: 1 (5 thru 9), 1 (20 thru 29), and 1 (40 thru 49). [7]

1848 Daniel Meals of Menallen Twp, Adams County and wife Rachel, late Rachel Miller, one of the daughters named in the will of Philip Miller, sold land from the estate to John Sadler. Deed dated April 10. [8]

1850 Daniel Meals (age 56, born in Pennsylvania, wagonmaker) lived in Menallen Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Rachel Meals (age 50), Jeremiah Meals (age 28), Treacy Meals (age 28), Isaac Meals (age 6), Isabella Meals (age 4), and Mary Meals (age 1). [9] [10]

1852 Daniel Meals and wife Rachel, of Dickinson Twp, Cumberland County, sold land to George Hewitt in order to pay debts to creditors. The land was in Butler Twp, Adams County. [11]

1860 Danl W Meals (age 63, born in Pennsylvania) and Rachel Meals (age 56) lived in North Newton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Jeremiah Meals (age 37), Lacy Meals (age 38), Isaac Meals (age 17), Isabella Meals (age 13), Mary Meals (age 11), Rachel Meals (age 8), Wm L Meals (age 7), Emma Meals (age 4), and Caroline A Meals (age 9/12). 1864 Daniel Meals died on October 25 and was buried at Centerville Lutheran Church Cemetery, Newville, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Daniel Meals was born on January 12, 1794. [14] [15] [16]

1870 Rachael Miller (age 71, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Newton Twp, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Jeremiah Meals (age 45), Tracey Meals (age 46), William Meals (age 17), Bella Meals (age 22), Rachael Meals (age 19), Emma Meals (age 14), Alice Meals (age 10), John Meals (age 8), Mahala Meals (age 5), and James Miller (age 21). [17]

1879 Rachel Meals of Gettysburg, Adams County, Pennsylvania, received a pension of 8 dollars per month starting December, 1879. [18]

1880 Rachel Meals (age 72, born in Pennsylvania, widowed), grandmother, lived in Franklin Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania, in a household with James Beisecker (age 28), Emma Beisecker (age 24), and John L. Beisecker (age 4/12). Rachel Meals's parents were both born in Pennsylvania. [19]

1890 Rachel Meals died on July 28 and was buried at Mount Joy Cemetery, Mount Joy Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. Rachel Meals was born on March 30, 1799. [20] [21]

Daughter Lydia:

1850 Elijah Warren (age 50, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Menallen Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Lydia Warren (25), Edward Warren (12), Sidney Warren (10), Matilda Warren (8), Ann Warren (6), Lewis Warren (4), Mary Warren (2), and Andrew Warren (1). Elijah Warren was a farmer. [22]

1870 Elijah Warren (age 55, born in Pennsylvania) lived in Menallen Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania, in a household with Lydia Warren (45), Andrew Warren (21), Isabelle Warren (19), Eliza Warren (14), Susan Warren (14), and Lincoln Warren (9). Elijah Warren was a farmer. [23]

1873 Lydia C Warren, spouse of Elijah Warren, died on October 30. She was born on December 20, 1820. [24]

1873 Elijah Warren, spouse of Lydia C Warren, died on November 14 in Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was born on January 4, 1813 in Adams County, Pennsylvania, son of Isaac Warren and Susannah Warren. [25]

Daughter Ann:

1898 Ann Rebecca Sowers, spouse of Paul Sowers, died on August 28. She was born on June 25, 1831. [26]

1913 Paul Sowers, spouse of Ann Rebecca Sowers, died on September 11 in Franklin Twp, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was born on April 15, 1827 in Pennsylvania, son of John Sowers and Elizabeth Sowers. [27]

1891 Rachel Ann Bushman, spouse of Jacob McLean Bushman, died on September 22. She was born on August 11, 1850, daughter of Paul Sowers and Ann Rebecca Sowers. [28]

Research Notes:

Other researchers have named Lydia Meals, spouse of Elijah Warren, as a child of this couple. We seek documentation for this possible relationship. It is possible that Theresa and Elijah Warren married Jeremiah and Lydia Meals, two pairs of brothers and sisters.

1830 A female, age 5-9 (perhaps daughter Lydia Meals?), was listed in the household of Daniel Meals.

1838 Lydia Meals and Elijah Warren, both of Menallen Twp, were married on May 5.

1857 The will of Isaac Warren, of Menallen Twp, was dated March 24. The will was affirmed by witnesses on August 5, 1865(?). The will named son Elijah Warren as executor. Terrecy Meals, among several others, was named as an heir (perhaps the wife of Jeremiah Meals). [30] [31]

1873 Lydia and Elijah Warren, and their daughter Isabella, all died within days of each other in Menallen Twp, Adams County.
