THE WEEK'S MORTUARY RECORD Mrs. Minnie Ellen Havens Suddenly as like a stroke of lightning out of a clear sky the death messenger came to Sister Minnie Ellen Havens at the Flora home in Lanark, where she was taking care of Ed Flora, a paralytic, on June 16, 1980, at the age of 59 years, 7 months and 7 days. The daughter of Levy and Susan Kauffman, she was born at Shannon on Nov. 9, 1870, and spent her entire life in the vicinities of Shannon and Lanark.
In 1896 she was united in marriage to Clarence Havens, by Eld. Z. T. Livengood. To this union one daughter was born, Susie May, who lived only two weeks, passing away March 12, 1898.
Sister Havens was converted at the age of 18, and united with the First Brethren church in Lanark under the ministry of Eld. Livengood.
The husband died August 20, 1919.
In her going she leaves a sister, Elta Yordy of Freeport and a brother, Elmer Kauffman of San Diego, California, besides other relatives and friends who share together her sudden and untimely departure. A brother and sister preceded her in death.
What a comfort to all our hearts to know as we gather here in her memory that she died in the faith with the full assurance that she had made her peace with God and was ready for the summons whenever it might come. Her life shall live on. The life she lived, the words she spoke, the character she built, and the influences she set in motion will live on through out eternity.
Peace to her until the morning of the first resurrection when all the saints shall come forth to meet the Lord, thus forever to be with Him.
Funeral services were held from the First Brethren church in Lanark on Wednesday, June 18, in charge of Rev. C. C. Grisso and Eld. Z. T. Livengood. Interment was made in Lanark cemetery.
