What I do with my bird feeder is let the food run out every day. Then when I go put out more bird seed, I yell "HERE BIRD BIRD BIRD". Bluejays and cardinals come flying in - it's funny to watch. I still don't know if they go by the sound of the door opening or my voice, but they are definitely Johnny-on-the-spot.
