Our Mission
We believe that change starts in local neighborhoods and communities.
Thus, our aim is to connect students with voluntary service at the local
level and to provide opportunities to make a difference to impoverished
children and families in our community. By actively pursuing our cause,
AARO can be a vital instrument for significant change.
About Us
Ann Arbor Reaching Out (AARO) is a student-run service organization
aimed at community improvement by facilitating efforts to ease the burdens
of homeless children and families.
Founded in the winter of 2000, AARO mostly operates in Ann Arbor,
where both members and casual volunteers become involved in one of our
many projects and programs (both long-term and short-term) involving
itinerant families and children.
The group's emphasis on community involvement not only serves
the ends of the community directly through non-profit work but also
works to link and engage students to become involved in local
charitable efforts.
Our current activities include
providing volunteers for family/youth communes such as Home of New Vision and the Ronald McDonald House.
conducting biannual food & clothing drives.
sponsoring periodic, seasonal projects of varying types such as benefit concerts and soup kitchens.
