Members of the Duda Lab study the causes and consequences of animal diversification, with a primary focus on the evolution of feeding specializations in the marine gastropod family Conidae (i.e., cone snails). We are currently engaged in projects aimed at determining patterns of variation in diets of populations of Conus species, the impact of hybridization on the diversification of cone snails, the evolution of conotoxin and chemoreceptor gene families of Conus species, the evolution of collecting behaviors of xenophores, and the assembly of microbiomes of molluscs. The work we do involves lab, field and collections-based research and employs population genetic, phylogenetic, and molecular evolutionary analyses.

PolyCone 2020-2024. An award from the Belmont Forum and NSF recently supported field and lab studies of the ecology of cone snails in French Polynesia. See Research for more information.
