My bad...it turns out that the reason I was getting an error from
papd being unable to register my printer is that i'd inadvertently
given it the SAME NAME as it has on the appletalk network. in other
words, i forgot that appletalk is fussy about naming collisions.

Once I renamed it in .paprc everthing is working beautifully again.
