This sounds very similar to the solaris bug that was patched with
solariseagain.diff, but I thought the signal was pretty specific to
Solaris. Anyone else care to differ here? Basically, the child afpd
process closes with the signal EAGAIN under Solaris.

In any event, try just upping your number of concurrent sessions with
afpd (use the -c option when starting afpd). Just find the script that
starts afpd and add '-c 10' or somesuch. The default is 5, which is
pretty low.
