ARTICLE I -- NAME

The name of this organization shall be The University of Michigan Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Foresters, Inc. (ISTF).



ARTICLE II -- DEFINITION OF "TROPICAL FORESTRY"

The University of Michigan Chapter of ISTF defines "tropical forestry" to include the ecology, management, and social issues related to tropical ecosystems.



ARTICLE III -- OBJECTIVES

The objectives the University of MichiganIs Chapter of ISTF include the following:

a) Act as a clearinghouse for tropical forestry information within the University of Michigan.

b) Encourage inter-university interactions relation to tropical forestry.

c) Sponsor and support ISTF membership for research partners in the tropics (as part of the University of Michigan chapter).

d) Link research to practical and applied tropical forestry situations.

e) Encourage undergraduates to be involved in tropical forestry issues.

f) Cooperate with local forestry organizations in tropical research sites and community forest management areas.

g) Provide a forum for the exchange of information concerning tropical forestry.

h) Distribute forestry publication.

i) Send relevant news and articles to the editor of the ISTF NEWS.

j) Arrange meetings and work sessions to exchange information and materials relevant to tropical forestry.

k) Encourage activities to strengthen forestry organizations.

 


ARTICLE IV -- MEMBERSHIP

ARTICLE V -- ORGANIZATION

Officers: The members of the University of Michigan Chapter of ISTF shall elect a Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary every February from its membership.

Faculty: The members of the University of Michigan Chapter of ISTF shall elect a Advisor: Faculty Advisor every February from its membership.

Excecutive: The Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, and Faculty Advisor shall form the Committee: executive committee. The Honorary Vice President (HVP) for the region shall serve on the executive committee as an ex-officio member. The executive committee shall exercise full control of all funds and property of a chapter. It shall provide full direction and management of its affairs, provided however, that the funds and property shall be used exclusively for the objectives set forth in Article II. A meeting of the executive committee may be called by the Chairperson.



ARTICLE VI -- MEETINGS

A meeting of the University of Michigan Chapter of ISTF shall be held at least twice each semester or more often as the officers determine.



ARTICLE VI -- AMENDMENTS

The executive committee of a chapter may change the Bylaws at any meeting providing changes are not in conflict with the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of ISTF.
