Q & A - About Gymnastics and U-M

Why do you like doing gymnastics?   I love the challenge, and knowing that I can always learn more.
What is your favorite event or routine? Why?   Bars is my favorite event because it has always been my best event since I first started competing in level 5. It is also the funnest event for me, I love training bars in practice as well as competing bars.

What attracted you to the University of Michigan?   How close the team was and how nice and helpful all of them were doing the recruiting process, also the coaches, the facility, and the academics at U of M.
What has been your most memorable gymnastics moment at Michigan?   When we rocked in our gym intrasquads!!

What has been your biggest challenge/obstacle in gym or college (or both) thus far? How did your overcome this challenge?   In the gym: I was really sore the first couple weeks from the different conditioning, and I had to get used to the wider bar setting, the higher vault setting and the lower beams, which was a challenge. In college: My first rough week, I had papers due, tests, exams and a midterm all during the same week. It was hard to figure out what to study when along with going to gym.
What has been your most embarrassing moment in the gym (ever)?   It definately has to be when I was doing conditioning for my knee. We had this really thick and long theraband connected to a door and then you would connect it to a belt around your waist, and there was a carabiner holding it together. So I would walk away from the door using the theraband as resistance, and one time I walked too far and the theraband snapped on me! It hurt soooooo bad! I had huge bruises on my thighs for a month. So when people saw them, I would have to tell them the whole story.
What goes through your head immediately before a routine?   I tell myself my corrections for each skill and remember how many times I have made this routine in practice.

What advice would you share with up-and-coming Michigan gymnasts?   All your hard work that you do now and all of the dedication that you put into your practices now will pay off greatly when you come to college and are able to experience the team atmosphere like never before.
What is your favorite part of the gym meets?   Cheering for everyone and the feeling you get right after you nail a routine.
Other than Michigan, where is your favorite place to compete and why?

What is the most interesting person that you've met at UM and why?   Our trainer, Lisa. She's quite a character.
What is the worst exam that you've taken?   Calculus 116, 2nd midterm.

Q & A - About You Personally

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
That I love to watch golf or NASCAR.

How would your teammates describe you?
Quiet, hardworking.

Who is one of your role models and why?
My mom, because she has overcome so much and has accomplished even more. I hope that one day I can be as good of a mom as she is.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to study math and science at UM and then maybe become an actuary, but I am not sure.

Besides gymnastics, what is one thing that you do well?
**%%$$##@@.

If you were given $431,718 how would you spend it?
I would hire Hank Haney to teach me how to golf so I could become a professional golfer. Then I would give money to my parents, brothers, and my extended family. Any leftover I would put in the bank for a later date.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
To fly.

What’s the best way to show your Michigan spirit?
Wear the colors Maize and Blue everyday! Also support all the sports teams. It is so much fun to cheer on everyone.

Since beginning college one thing I’ve learned is that…
Sleep is not necessary. Don't get me wrong, I personally love to sleep. But you can function without it.

If you could only listen to one song from now on, what would it be?
Had a Bad Day.

Have you ever held a job? If so, what?
Gymnastics coach.

If there was one thing you wish you were better at, what would it be?
Singing. I am definately the world's worst.

If there was one country in the world that you could travel to, where would it be?
After my trip to China, I never want to leave this country again.
