Getting to know...Huneth Lor!

As a gymnast that has placed in the top ten in the all-around at Level 10 Nationals over the past three years (5th in 2003 and 7th in 2004 and 2005), Huneth Lor has the potential to contribute on all four events for the Wolverines. However, her individual strength may be on bars and beam, where she is an Illinois L10 State Champion (2004, beam) and holds top ten finishes at L10 Nationals on both events for the past two years (2005: 4th on bars & 10th on beam; 2004: 8th on bars & beam). Lor hails from Aurora, Illinois, where she graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School and was a Level 10 standout with Aerial Gymnastics.

Huneth took time out of her schedule to discuss what she is looking forward to in the upcoming season, her new floor routine, and her personal goals for the upcoming season.

On what attracted her to the University of Michigan...
"What attracted me to Michigan is everything it has to offer. The prestigious reputation, education, and of course athletics it has above all the other Universities. The team was also a major factor that attracted me to Michigan because of how close the girls are. They're like family and that's what I love about the team."

On some of the challenges that she has encountered thus far on adjusting to college gymnastics (training-wise)?
"One of the challenges I have encountered adjusting to college gymnastics training is the different type of conditioning. We do these kettle bell exercises that work really well, but it’s just a different kind of exercise than the normal conditioning I’m used to doing. I like it a lot though; it’s a
good conditioning exercise."

On some of the challenges that she has encountered thus far in balancing both academics and gymnastics?
"It hasn’t been that tough balancing both academics and gymnastics. I have two classes in the morning and then I go to gym either at 1:00 or 2:00; depending on the day. Afterwards, I have the whole night to do homework and go to study table. I just have to manage my time and make sure I stay on top of things."

On her favorite event...
"My favorite event to compete would have to be floor, because you get to show off your floor routine. However, my favorite event to work out on is beam because you can work and play around with all different kinds of skills on this event."

On what her new floor exercise routine will be like...
"Well, my music is really cool! It has this oriental guitar instrument sound with a mix of upbeat music. It’s really hard to explain, but it really does sound cool. I can’t really describe my dance, so you have to come to our meets to watch mine and everyone’s floor routines.

On what she is looking forward to the most about the upcoming season...
"I’m really looking forward to actually being able to compete as a Michigan Wolverine! Our team looks great this year and I’m just so excited to compete with this amazing team. It will be a new experience for me, but I’m thrilled about it."

On whether she has a particular nickname...
"Hun…I respond to that when other people say it, even when they aren’t referring to me! LOL…"

On her personal goal for the upcoming season...
"My personal goal for this upcoming season is to contribute as much as I can to the team."

On the type of profession that she is interested in pursuing after graduation....
"Right now I’m majoring in sports management, and seeing where that will take me. I really want to have a career in the sports industry. That would be exciting!"
