Worship Committee
Purpose:
To ensure a meaningful worship experience at the Chapel.
Membership:
One chairperson and at least three at-large members.
Duties:
- Pray for the Lord's guidance in all committee activities.
- Assist the pastor in planning an occasional student-led worship service.
- Altar Guild
- Organize and train a group of Chapelites to prepare and clean for Communion.
- Ensure that the chancel is prepared for each worship service.
- Service Assistants
- Ensure that, for each worship service, there are two ushers, two greeters, and a reader.
- Ensure that these service assistants understand their jobs and responsibilities.
- Communicate the names of the assistants to the office by the Wednesday prior to the service.
- Music
- Actively encourage Chapelites to share their vocal and instrumental musical talents with the congregation in the service.
- Coordinate these musical offerings with the pastor and the organist.
Outreach Committee
Purpose:
To increase involvement in and awareness of the Chapel within the University community.
Membership:
One chairperson, one Peer Ministry leader, and at least two at-large members.
Duties:
- Pray for the Lord's guidance in all committee activities.
- Ensure that evangelism efforts are addressed to Christians and non-Christians at the the University as well as at surrounding institutions of higher learning.
- Transportation
- Identify those in need of transportation to Chapel events.
- Organize a group of Chapelites to provide this transportation.
- Public Relations
- Generate and distribute publicity materials such as flyers and banners.
- Send photos and press releases to local and church publications.
- International Ministry
- Address the specific needs of outreach to international students.
- Peer Ministry Leader
- Direct the peer ministry staff and run staff meetings.
- Coordinate communication between the peer ministers and the Outreach committee.
- Ensure that proper documentation of peer ministry contacts is maintained.
Fellowship
Purpose:
To facilitate Christian fellowship outside the worship service.
Membership:
One chairperson and at least four at-large members.
- Pray for the Lord's guidance in all committee activities.
- Athletics
- Recruit participants for ULC intramural athletics teams.
- Register these teams with the intramural athletics department.
- Sunday Supper
- Ensure that a meal is prepared each Sunday evening and appropriate clean-up is performed.
- Encourage Chapelites to attend the Sunday meal.
- Miscellaneous Activities
- Organize large-scale activities such as hayrides, dances, and new student welcome events about once a month.
- Organize small events, to occur at least once a week, such as coffeehouse, movie nights, and study nights.
- Organize a summer activity such as a canoe or Cedar Point trip.
- Work with Outreach and Communication as necessary to publicize these events.
Spiritual Growth
Purpose:
To provide opportunities for growth in faith through service and study.
Membership:
One chairperson and at least two at-large members.
Duties:
- Pray for the Lord's guidance in all committee activities.
- Bible Study
- Organize Bible studies and choose leaders and facilitators for them.
- Lutheran Student Fellowship
- Coordinate trips to LSF events.
- Maintain communication between ULC, LSF, and other campus ministries.
- Service Activities
- Investigate potential service opportunities.
- Coordinate a Spring Break service trip.
- Organize a Christmas service event (e.g. Christmas Family).
- Ensure regular opportunities for service such as soup kitchen and Habitat for Humanity.
Communication
Purpose:
To coordinate a network of communication among Chapelites.
Membership:
One chairperson and at least three at-large members.
Duties:
- Pray for the Lord's guidance in all committee activities.
- Newsletter
- Oversee publication of a monthly newsletter.
- Prayer Chain
- Moderate an electronic prayer chain.
- Internet
- Maintain current email address lists for all ULC mailing lists.
- Moderate lists to keep content in appropriate forums.
- Maintain the ULC World Wide Web site.
- Photography
- Set up photo board of ULC council members.
- Take pictures at ULC activities and compile photo albums.
- Technology
- Maintain computer-related equipment and software at the chapel.
Property
Purpose:
To improve and maintain the physical plant of the chapel.
Membership:
One chairperson and at least two at-large members.
Duties:
Pray for the Lord's guidance in all committee activities.
- Coordinate list of building needs with apartment residents.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks.
- Investigate and report major maintenance needs to the council.
- Contact professional services for major needs covered in budget.
- Ensure that the Michigan District office is contacted regarding other major problems.
- Organize work parties as necessary to help with maintenance tasks.
