Jing Sun, Michael G. Parsons Collegiate Professor of Engineering

Summary:
Jing Sun received her Ph. D degree from the University of Southern California in 1989, and her B. S. and M. S. degrees from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1982 and 1984 respectively, all in Electrical Engineering.
From 1989-1993, she was an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Wayne State University. She joined Ford Research Laboratory in 1993 where she worked in the Powertrain Control Systems Department. After spending almost 10 years in industry, she came back to academia and joined the faculty of the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2003, where she is now Micheal G. Parsons Professor and the chair in the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, with courtesy appointments as a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Department of Mechanical Engineering. Her research interests include system and control theory and its applications to marine and automotive propulsion systems.
She holds 41 US patents and has co-authored a textbook on Robust Adaptive Control. She is a recipient of the 2003 IEEE Control System Technology Award. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), IEEE, and the Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (SNAME).
